I’m 64. In 1980 I was 20 and a lead guitar player Was the greatest time to be a musician. I had 3 brothers, and two sisters and my mother and father. They all are gone too. I miss those days so bad but I miss my family more. Funny how life changes and all I can do is welcome dying when my time comes, so I can see them all again Christmas is the hardest. But the 80s changed the world with MTV. Music drove that decade

I had just graduated HS in 1988…..I worked some odd jobs, had some girlfriends, had no direction and owned a 1980 Fiat Spyder convertible (a terrible/awesome car). On those summer nights when it was warm and clear I’d play this song on my cassette as loud as I could with the top down and my mullet in a pony-tail to keep it out of my face to decompress from what I thought was stress back then….it was like a magic song that melted away all my fears, insecurities, and worries all at once as I sang along out loud….it was just me and the world at that moment, a feeling which I wish I could have kept in a bottle for when I needed it….

What I love personally about this song is having grown up with it and enjoying for most of my life. It came on the radio the other day and I was in the car with my 17 yr old son and he started singing along with me. I was shocked that he knew the words. I asked him how he knew this song. The 1990’s was a decent, but flawed “Part II” and the 2000’s was a “Part III” where the writers didn’t bother to acquaint themselves with the source material.

I compare it to the three “Smokey and the Bandit” movies. The first one was a brilliant and fun adventure movie. The second one was a movie that was decent, but couldn’t decide if it was a comedy or an adventure movie. And the third came into existence after someone heard about the first two movies from a drunken hobo that was living in a dumpster.

You’re not alone. I think most of us feel that way. Especially when you stumble across an old video like this. I was like 13 when this song came out and by then I was pretty much all about heavy metal and punk rock. But back then we didn’t have the “luxury” of searching for and watching/listening to only the genres that we were into at the moment. There was only one MTV and one VH1 and no DVR so.. we watched what was on or found something else to do. Everything’s on demand now and I’m not sure it’s a good thing.

I heard it a couple of days ago while on my 50 mile motorcycle ride to work. I leave at 4:30 AM, so there's hardly any traffic to keep me company as I roll through the woods and farmland . At 71 and and looking at retirement on Dec.31, I'm looking at my twilight years and I tend to reflect a lot anymore. The memories are like swift flowing water going under a bridge. I really like this song and always have. It speaks to all ages.
P.S. I decided to give them another year. I know I can make it. Put one foot in front of the other and make it to lunchtime every day, and the rest of the day is downhill. 😀 I think I have 208 working days left. Thanks for all of your good wishes.

I've sang this song a million times, in my head, to my relationships, and my commitments. Just now, I realized, this is not only a love song, it's a family, commitment song. My dad was diagnosed with cancer, had the tumor removed, plastic surgery to repair the gapping hole... My mom may you rest in heaven you will be missed forever and you will never be forgotten about. My moms just passed away from her second stroke 😭 😭 mom's was a great woman and mother and she had a great big heart and would always help others in need with whatever she could like new clothes, shoes, Xmas presents, birthday presents, food and whatever else she could and also so was my pops i always seen him helping others and he and mom's always telling me to help others that need it because that's what we are all put on this earth to do . One thing i loved most about mom's She would always spread God's word to everyone she met and she always had the Bible in her hands everyday, just asking the people that she helped when the time is right for them to help someone else out in need when they can. I miss her like crazy she would always help me when I go through my epilepsy and i have lots of seizures that it takes my body about a month just to recover from them. So please to everyone just keep me in your thoughts and prayers for my epilepsy is actually getting worse than before on my body and now since my mom passed away I been very depressed about her and my dad and she took care of my pops till he passed away and she helped him 24/7 with his throat cancer and she was cleaning his trek about once every hour so he could breathe better and she helped him beat it but he passed away from his third heart attack about two years after beating throat cancer. Pops-03/02/1931-10/01/2005 Mom's-12/15/1958-09/30/2023 this song touches my heart very much and that's what I'm needing right now ❤❤❤❤& 🙏🙏🙏🙏 prayers from everyone because my body is not doing too well and I have bruises all over my face from falling over and hitting stuff. Having epilepsy is very scary and I hope one day I can beat this scary horrible disability and I pray for everyone out their that they beat their epilepsy and whatever other disabilities that needs help with. I forgot this song for almost two decades till one day I listened this in a movie called Napoleon Dynamite. Tears were flowed on my cheeks. Goosebumps everywhere.
