Pop culture aficionados will recognise the name from cult favourite comic book turned Edgar Wright film, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, and that the band has the same moniker isn't coincidental in the slightest.
After meeting at university, Dave (keyboards), Wayne (bass) and Sam (guitar) brought in vocalist Steve and drummer Ed to add the final pieces to the puzzle and The Ramona Flowers have been working at it ever since - perfecting a sound that has seen them praised for their rawness but simultaneously their courage to experiment with a surprising number of styles which has led to the NME describing the band's textural sound as "a wholly different beast", and The Guardian to declare "hugeness may be imminent".
The bands unique sound has not gone unnoticed by their peers either as the band were recently thrust into the spotlight when band of the moment BASTILLE asked them to support them on their massive 17 date UK headline tour and BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB asked them to support them on their 2014 European tour plus Alt- J, Hot Chip, Everything Everything and Ladytron have all given them the remix treatment having first heard their early demos.
Ultimately though with The Ramona Flowers it’s not about names or looks, just sound, and their mission to make the rest of the world go “wow”.
Out of Focus
The Ramona Flowers Lyrics

Blurry eyed
Wasn't a sight to see
Lose a life
Leave behind
The ground underneath my feet
No the dust never settled all around me
That I needed you a little
I needed you a little
Took so long just to find you
So long in the dark
You've been out of focus all of this time
You've been out of focus all of this time
First to start
Last to stop
A stranger in every room
Think aloud
Sober thoughts
Never had much to lose
Just pull me in close let me feel you
Capture this moment so I don't forget
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
The song "Out of Focus" by The Ramona Flowers revolves around the aftermath of a relationship that ended in heartbreak. The lyrics suggest a state of confusion and loss, with the singer feeling disoriented and unfocused after losing the person they loved. The first two lines set the tone, with the singer feeling like they've lost track of time and are walking around in a haze. They describe themselves as a "sight to see," which could suggest either that they feel unimportant and invisible, or that they are such a mess that they are hard to look at. In either case, the implication is that they are struggling to cope with the aftermath of whatever has happened.
The chorus expands on this theme, with the singer lamenting the fact that they "needed you a little" and couldn't make the relationship work. They describe themselves as "out of focus" and suggest that they've been struggling to find their way for a long time. They want to be woken up and shaken out of their fog, but at the same time, there's a sense of resignation - they know that they've lost something valuable and aren't sure how to move forward.
Overall, "Out of Focus" is a poignant and relatable song about the experience of heartbreak and the struggle to find one's footing again. The lyrics are open to interpretation, but they capture the sense of confusion and sadness that can come with the end of a relationship.
