The Party's Over
The Ramsey Lewis Trio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They've burst your pretty balloon
And taken the moon away
It's time to wind up the masquerade
Just make your mind up
The piper must be paid
The party's over, the candles flicker and dim
It seemed to be right just being with him
Now you must wake up, all dreams must end
Take off your makeup, the party's over
It's all over, my friend
The party's over, it's time to call it a day
They've burst your pretty balloon
And taken the moon away
Now you must wake up, all dreams must end
Take off your makeup, the party's over
It's all over, my friend
It's all over, my friend
The lyrics of The Ramsey Lewis Trio's song The Party's Over talks about the end of a party or celebration. It's a short yet melancholic piece that conveys the feeling of disappointment and resignation that comes with the end of festivities. The song begins by acknowledging that the party has ended, and it's high time to bring it to a close. The line "They've burst your pretty balloon and taken the moon away" suggests that something beautiful has been destroyed or taken away, leaving the partygoers feeling deflated and disheartened.
The second verse delves deeper into the emotions surrounding the end of the party. While the party was going on, the attendees were able to escape reality and immerse themselves in the festivities. For a while, everything seemed perfect, but the morning after brings with it a sense of reality. The line "Now you must wake up, all dreams must end" encapsulates the feeling of coming back to reality after a period of escape. Finally, the song ends with the repetition of the line "It's all over, my friend," reminding the listeners that things have come to an end, and it's time to move on.
