They began in August of 2013 with no intention of being a band. Originally, they began practicing together for a one time feature with an indie music promoter. But their chemistry and sound gained some attention, and they were invited to several small gigs which gained further attention. Shortly after, their status as a band became official.

The Ransom Collective Lyrics

Since I last saw you
I've just been here all by myself
Pulling old books from the top shelf
Leaves are falling
But I don't plan on coming down
How does it look from way up there
Hold your questions
You'll find your answer off the page
I hear you calling from afar
Set off to find out where you are
I can' help it
I can't help but speak my mind
I swore someday I'd leave this place
It's time to take that leap of faith
They see me running through their dreams at night
Trying to keep myself above the tide
And if I fail at least I know I tried
Tried my best to keep an open mind
They call me headstrong
But I have had my ups and downs
I've seen reflections from the past
Beneath the shadows that you've cast
Look around you
Can you feel the open air
The view is better from right here
You're right, there was nothing to fear
They see me running through their dreams at night
Trying to keep myself above the tide
And if I fail at least I know I tried
Tried my best to keep an open mind
They see me running through their dreams at night
Trying to keep myself above the tide
And if I fail at least I know I tried
Tried my best to keep an open mind
The first verse sets the scene of the song and paints a picture of solitude. The singer hasnβt seen the person they are addressing for a while and has been alone, pulling old books from the top shelf. The second verse has a philosophical bent as the singer observes the leaves falling but doesnβt plan on coming down. They wonder how it looks from way up there and whether they can survive the mountain air. Tides explores themes of introspection, self-discovery, and resilience in the face of adversity.
The chorus has a dreamy atmosphere as the singer describes how others see him in their dreams at night. They try to keep themselves above the tide and are determined to try their best to keep an open mind. The final verse provides an optimistic note as the singer encourages the person they are addressing to look around and feel the open air. They concede that there was nothing to fear and that the view is better from right there.
