Promised Land
The Raven Age Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Still awaiting the promised land
Scared to face what lies ahead
I make my way through this blood and sand
I pray to god because this must end

Will you set me free
And let me live my life in solace now
Eradicate this dream
There's nothing left but penance for me now

In the distance I see a light
I look again towards total darkness
He's watching me as he laughs aloud
You'll never make it once it's despair you've found

Will you set me free
And let me live my life in solace now
Eradicate this dream
There's nothing left but penance for me now

Man falling down from the life which he leads
Searching the skies for something to believe

The vulture preys when your courage dies
You're left alone it's just you and your mind
As repent overpowers me
My body crumbles it's the end that I see

Will you set me free
And let me live my life in solace now
Eradicate this dream
There's nothing left but penance for me now

Man falling down from the life which he leads
Searching the skies for something to believe
Will you remember my name at the end
My faith is now broken so farewell my friend

Man falling down from the life which he leads
Searching the skies for something to believe

Will you remember my name at the end
My faith is now broken so farewell my friend

Overall Meaning

The Raven Age's song "Promised Land" is a solemn plea for deliverance from a difficult and brutal existence. The lyrics speak to the feeling of being trapped in a cycle of violence and struggle, desperately searching for a way out. The singer admits to being terrified of what lies ahead in this wasteland of "blood and sand," but he is determined to keep moving forward in search of something better. He prays for guidance and the strength to overcome his circumstances, even as he confronts the possibility that there may be no escape.

The tone of the song is one of resignation and despair, as the singer acknowledges that his fate may be inevitable. He sees a glimmer of hope in the distance, but also recognizes the darkness that surrounds him, and the sinister forces that seem determined to keep him from reaching his goal. The vulture is a particularly haunting metaphor for the cruel realities of a world that preys on the weak and the desperate.

Ultimately, the song is a powerful meditation on the universal human desire for freedom and a better life, even in the face of overwhelming obstacles. The Raven Age capture this theme with a sense of urgency and emotional intensity that makes "Promised Land" a standout track on their album.

Just discovered this band randomly on Spotify. Instant fan. What a banger of a riff.

The guitarist is son of Steve Harris of Iron Maiden

Fucking love this band. These guys are the future.

TheMetal

That's one fat ass riff! These guys really know how to mix heavy riffs with melodic vocals. Only a few other bands can do that on this level (e.g. Tremonti, Trivium, Alter Bridge)

Le Magnifique

Don't forget Avenged Sevenfold

It helps when your dad is the bassist of one of the biggest metal bands ever
