The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.
Love in a Trashcan
The Raveonettes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
People say she's a whore anyway
I think she looks like a nice vamp
Looking for love in a trashcan
If you kiss that girl you won't be caught dead
She's the coolest girl you think you ever met
I think she fits right into my life
Now the time is right and you feel the need
To go down low and receive a treat
The jukebox churns out songs about sex
Come on baby you're my best fix
The lyrics to The Raveonettes's song Love in a Trashcan speak of an unconventional love and attraction that is not accepted by society. The first two lines suggest that the girl in question is considered a "whore" by people, indicating that she has a questionable reputation. Despite this, the singer finds her attractive and describes her as a "nice vamp", which could be interpreted as a fascinating or mysterious person. The use of the phrase "Looking for love in a trashcan" suggests that the girl is searching for love in unlikely places or possibly that society has discarded her as worthless.
The next two lines reveal that the singer sees the girl as the "coolest girl" that he has ever met, and that she fits well into his life, which is spent "on the road till the end of time." The song seems to suggest a sense of freedom and a rejection of societal norms in favor of living life on one's own terms. The last verse suggests that the singer is seeking sexual satisfaction, and that this girl is the best fix for him.
Overall, Love in a Trashcan seems to speak of an unconventional relationship between two people who are rejected by society for their choices or past mistakes. The singer finds beauty and attraction where others see only shame and rejects traditional norms in favor of living freely and satisfying his desires.
