This is the first time I knew there was another version of this song. I always thought Kathy Young's was the first. While I love her rendition, this one is really beautiful with all the harmonies. It's a shame it never got the recognition it deserved. I never heard of this group either. They were so talented. Thanks for posting.

One of the unheralded groups of doo-wop. Their harmony rivaled the best of that era. Kathy Young and the Innocents had the hit with that song, but these guys should have.

I remember singing this song with a group of guys on Shetland and Lowell streets in Pittsburgh. We even put music to Jerry Vales, "Two Purple Shadows on the Snow". "A runny, a runny bobbidee oooh" But "A Thousand Stars" was our jam. I was depressed when the cover came out and the Revilleers didn't get the credit. It is so sad, that our television station which features the Doo Wop reunion concerts as fund raisers use the cover artist, which sort of validates them as the original, will not put a disclaimer on their performance as not being the first performers of a song. I'm so glad that I lived in this era of music. I sang which several local groups. It
was the best time of my life, that's why is so demoralizing that there are so many songs born on the street corners of cities and recorded by great artist are copied by others and they credit goes to the copy cats. To hear these great songs in their true, original form and voice is so refreshing. This song, among others were like our

So I guess the little WG gets all the credit for this song!
Even though it was sung six years first by The Rivileers and of course better.
My regret is that I heard Kathy’s version first! For I didn’t even know about this! Always gotta be ‘theefin’ from us all the time! Did you hear The Crew Cuts miserable rendition of ‘Sh boom’ vs The Chords. Give me a break! And Pat Boone had the audacity to even utter ‘Tutti Frutti’ tryna theef(yes that’s how I spelt it) from Lil Richard,

IMO the Kathy Young version is a pale imitation of this classic. This was in an era when black groups were consigned to "R&B" stations. When Kathy Young's record came out rock and roll was becoming mainstream. The good news is that Eugene Pearson of the Rivileers retained writing credit.
