A Thousand Stars
The Rivileers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A thousand stars in the skies like the stars in your eyes
They say to me that there'll never be
No other love like you for me

A thousand stars in the skies make me realize
You are the one love that I'll adore
Tell me you love me, tell me you're mine once more
Each night I count the stars in the skies
Hoping that you aren't telling me lies
You're with me tonight, I'm captured by your charms
Oh, pretty baby, let me hold you in my arms

A thousand stars in the skies make me realize
You are the one love that I'll adore
Tell me you love me, tell me you're mine once more

Each night I count the stars in the skies
Hoping that you aren't telling me lies
You're with me tonight, I'm captured by your charms
Oh, pretty baby, let me hold you in my arms

A thousand stars in the skies make me realize

You are the one love that I'll adore
Tell me you love me, tell me you're mine once more

Overall Meaning

The Rivileers' song "A Thousand Stars" is about the intensity and uniqueness of a person's love, likened to the countless stars in the sky. The repetition of "a thousand stars in the skies" is symbolic of the vastness of the universe, and how the love the singer has for their significant other is just as expansive and infinite. The lyric "they say to me that there'll never be no other love like you for me" expresses the artist's belief that their love is one-of-a-kind, never to be duplicated or replaced.

The song's chorus repeats the sentiments expressed in the opening lines, with the singer being moved to reiterate their love for their partner. The repeated refrain "tell me you love me, tell me you're mine once more" underscores the importance of verbal affirmation in a relationship. Each verse is similarly repetitive in structure, with the singer counting the stars and longing for their lover's embrace.

Overall, the song is a classic example of the doo-wop genre, with smooth harmonies, a slow tempo, and an ardently romantic subject matter that has stood the test of time.

I've been wrong all these years thinking Kathy Young originated this song. So glad to find this. They should have gotten much more attention

@marcomustang876

Whitewashed and ripped off by white record execs and white woman !

@jessicaallen901

A thousand times better version. She was great but love this one the best. Originals are always the best in my book ❤️

@jakejones5736

@Jessica Allen First time I ever heard of both this version and the band. I prefer Young's version by far. Could it be that the first one you hear tends to get a skewed rating? Don't know. Nothing wrong with this one though.

@mikecooley7514

They were negros so they got robbed by a white singer. Happened often.

@sandramertz5797

This is the first time I knew there was another version of this song. I always thought Kathy Young's was the first. While I love her rendition, this one is really beautiful with all the harmonies. It's a shame it never got the recognition it deserved. I never heard of this group either. They were so talented. Thanks for posting.

@lesliebest5562

I heard Kathy’s rendition first and ❤️ it. But I simply adore The Rivileers for they are perfection! 👏🏾🤗👏🏾🤗👏🏾

@Florida45Gal

remember this song so well, at church dances when I was 12-13 years old....those when there were REAL SONGS...with REAL WORDS.

@hossridr1

One of the unheralded groups of doo-wop.  Their harmony rivaled the best of that era.  Kathy Young and the Innocents had the hit with that song, but these guys should have.

@MrPoppys44

I'm 78 and still listening to this great song.
