The Servant was a London-based alternative band who were popular in Britain, France and Italy, as well as other European countries. In November 2007, the band announced through their MySpace blog that they were to split up. Their singles include Orchestra, Liquefy, Cells, and How to Destroy a Relationship. They share the singer, Dan Black, with Planet Funk.
Despite growing international demand, they had chosen to focus on strengthening their European audience before globe trotting. Their first introduction to an American audience was an instrumental version of their song Cells, featured in trailers for the film, Sin City. (The instrumental version of Cells is not on the Sin City soundtrack, but it can be downloaded via their website.) Cells was also used in the film Transporter 2, along with their song, Body. Since the Sin City trailers there has been significant U.S. interest in their records and demands for live concerts.
They released their second album, How to Destroy a Relationship, in October 2006 in Switzerland, Italy, and France.
Save Me Now

Look just like blood inside a vein
The cars I see below the plane
Look just like blood inside a vein
They go pumping their way through the black
I pull down the blind and lean back
I wonder
What's gonna save me now?
Roadrunner flickers on the screen
As I slip in
I go pumping your through the black
I pull down the blinds and I lie back
I wonder
What's gonna save me now?
What's gonna save me now?
Could it be people or places I've yet to know
Or crying over feel-good movie shows
Or is just there in the street life down below?
I don't know
Look,
Whatever I think will be wrong
So lets just carry on, off, on
Save me now!
Save me now!
What's gonna save me now?
Tell me what's gonna save me now?
Could it be people or places I've yet to know
Or crying over feel-good movie shows
Or is just there in the street life down below?
I don't know
The lyrics to The Servant's song Save Me Now depict a sense of disconnection and uncertainty. The opening lines refer to the view from an airplane as the cars on the ground resemble blood flowing through veins. This imagery suggests a detached and clinical view of life, perhaps calling to mind our fear of being just another body in a sea of humanity. The repetition of the question "What's gonna save me now?" indicates a desperation for something to hold onto or believe in.
The mention of Roadrunner flashing across the screen may refer to the cartoon character, known for its high-speed and escapism, further alluding to a need to leave reality behind. In the chorus, the question of what will save the singer is posed once more, with a list of options - people or places they have yet to know, crying over feel-good movies, or finding salvation in the street life below - all of which offer little hope.
The uncertainty of the song is summed up in the final line: "Whatever I think will be wrong, so let's just carry on." The singer seems resigned to their fate, accepting that they cannot predict what will save them and must simply continue on.
