Ghost Town
The Shiny Toy Guns Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everyone living in ghost town
Everyone buried in waste land
We don't want to
We don't have to be like that
Living in ghost town
All the boys shout it out loud now
All the girls scream it out louder
We don't want to
We don't have to live like that

[Chorus]
Hold me back you know were never gonna back down
Hold me back you know were never gonna back down
Were dead in this ghost town
You better let go so let go of me
Were dead in this ghost town
You better let go so let go let go of me
Let go let go of me
Let go let go of me

Everyone living in ghost town
Everyone buried in waste land
We don't want to
We don't have to be like that
Living in ghost town
All the boys shout it out loud now
All the girls scream it out louder
We don't want to
We don't have to live like that

[Chorus]

It's nearly over, the last train is near
And it's leaving behind those tears
These are the bad lands
The worst place to fear
Making place for the ones we left here
They're calling calling
To say goodbye

[Repeat: x2]
Were dead in this ghost town
You better let go so let go of me
Were dead in this ghost town
You better let go so let go let go of me

Let go let go of me
Let go let go of me

The opening lines set the tone of the song, illustrating how everyone inhabiting the ghost town is buried in waste land, and how they don't have to live like that. The lyrics go on to suggest that everyone in this ghost town, boys and girls alike, are shouting and screaming because they don't want to live like that, showing that they don't want to be confined to living in such a miserable place.

The song's chorus, "Hold me back, you know we're never gonna back down," suggests that the townspeople are eager to leave the ghost town, but they need some inspiration and encouragement to do so. The chorus then continues with the stunning lyrics, "We're dead in this ghost town, you better let go, so let go of me." This is a strong and powerful line underscoring the desperation of wanting to escape from this ghost town. The last lines, "Let go, let go of me" are a plea for help.

This band was waaaay ahead of their time. If this was released today it would be a hit it's just sad they never got as big as they should have.

Yeah, but there's still us to be fans of them. :D

@fritzmusic

I am a drummer that played with two primary core of these guys back in Oklahoma in the 90's before they cranked all this stuff out. I agree. They've always been ahead of the curve. They were too edgy for me back then.
