[BOYS]
Flip on a switch and everything's fine
No more lips, no more tongue, no more ears, no more eyes
The naked blue angel, who peers through the blinds
Disappears in the gloom of the mirror-blue night

[MELCHIOR]
But there's nowhere to hide from these bones, from my mind
It's broken inside-ย I'm a man and a child
I'm at home with a ghost who got left in the cold
Who knocks at my peace, with no keys to my soul

[BOYS]
And the whispers of fear, the chill up the spine
Will steal away too, with a flick of the light
The minute you do, with fingers so blind
You remove every bit of the blue from your mind

[MELCHIOR]
But there's nowhere to hide from the ghost in my mind
It's cold in these bones- of a man and a child
And there's no one who knows, and there's nowhere to go
There's no one to see who can see to my soul

Khushi Bhagat

Flip on a switch and everything's fine
No more lips, no more tongue, no more ears, no more eyes
The naked blue angel, who peers though the blinds
Disappears in the gloom of the mirror-blue night

But there's nowhere to hide from these bones from my mind
It's broken inside, I'm a man and a child
I'm at home with a ghost who got left in the cold
Who knocks at my peace with no keys to my soul

And the whispers of fear, the chill up the spine
Will steal away too with a flick of the light
The minute you do it with fingers so blind
You remove every bit of the blue from your mind

But there's nowhere to hide from the ghost in my mind
It's cold in these bones of a man and a child
And there's no one who knows and there's nowhere to go
There's no one to see who can see to my soul

By far the most underrated song in the show. The last verse that Melchior sings is absolutely spooky/heart breaking

I played Otto one year and this song was one of my many favorites singing onstage. So powerful and haunting.

Omggg coudnt have said it better ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Emily Dickinson

I love everything about this song. In my opinion, it's the most emotional in the entire show. This is how teenagers feel: "There's nowhere to hide from the ghost in my mind..."

You're stuck awkwardly between two defining points of life: your childhood and your adult self. As a child you were raised given all the answers to any question you ever wanted, but as a teenager, the ignorance of our species and how little we truly know about WHAT we are is plighted against you.

The imagery is beautiful. Just the title, "The Mirror-Blue Night", evokes inside my mind the image of my old bedroom, in the dark, the moonlight from outside making everything seem gloomy and blue. 'The naked blue angel / who appears through the blinds / disappears in the gloom of the mirror-blue night." Stark images, all very true to Melchior's character.

"There's no-one who knows / and there's nowhere to go / there's no-one to see who can see to my soul." As stated before, this sums up the anxiety, wonder, and uncertainty Melchior is faced with. This is attributed to his sexual attraction to Wendla; but on a more universal note, this applies to being a person. It is something all teenagers must deal with. It is torturous.

Ricky Ricardo

I think there's a really cool sexual message to it too. It's about that post-sex clarity when the "naked blue angel" that's been tempting you disappears, but then you're faced with your true self and all the horror that brings.

Easier Than Pie i never said it was?

wow im connor

alex time low The Dark I Know Well is about sexual abuse, not growing up.

alex
