Unite
The Supertones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Live and un-drugged six years and countin'
Believer in Christ, yes, yes, the blessed fountain
Apologetic warrior, chalk one up for the visitors
Casting fierce some light into the shadows of midnight

To the underground we descend
With our whole generation to defend
Got a whole army on my case, got the devil in my face
'Cause that punk knows when is the end

Unite, ignite and spark a light to burn so bright
The sight will blind the blind of this our modern time

Oh yeah, I got a beef with the fence sitters
Tiers among the wheat, the cop outs, the quitters
Cut from the branch fruitless, no good
Only one use and that's firewood

Pay no mind to the generation line
Forsake your sect and be color blind
The problem's not Hollywood, the problem's not Washington
The problem's a weak divided church of schizoids Christians

Never going back the the darkness I was damned in
Now I turn my back on the place that I was found in
Flick a match on Babylon, burn baby burn
Raised my mind for all this time and now it's your turn

Got enough gasoline and plenty ol' matches
Finally I'm free and I shake off the ashes

From the city of refuse, I refuse to pay dues
To you, not me, and none of the free and the few

Overall Meaning

The Supertones's song "Unite" is a testament of the lead singer's faith in Christ and his desire to unite with his generation and defend their belief against the devil. The song expresses the idea of being a "warrior" for Christ and casting his light into the shadows of midnight. To this end, the singer declares his determination to unite with his whole generation to defend their beliefs and spark a light that will shine bright and blind the blind in modern times.

The lyrics continue with the lead singer expressing his frustration with fence sitters, cop outs, and quitters - those who are fruitless and have no use except as firewood. He encourages his listeners to pay no attention to generation lines and be color blind. The song concludes with the singer declaring that he will never go back to the darkness he once knew, and he burns Babylon with enough gasoline and matches to shake off the ashes.

Overall, "Unite" is a call to action for Christians to unite with their generation, defend their beliefs, and be a light in the darkness. The song speaks of being bold in one's faith and refusing to conform to the world's ways.

Scriptures about the unity that The Church is called to:

Amos 3:3
Ezekiel 11:19-20
John 17:1, 6, 9, 20-23
1 Corinthians 1:10, 4:17
Romans 12:4-5, 16-18
Colossians 3:14-15
Philippians 1:27
Galatians 3:27-28
1 Peter 3:8
Ephesians 4:1-3, 11-16
Matthew 23:8
Psalm 133:1
Acts 4:32
Matthew 18:19!! πŸ˜ƒ
& Romans 15:5-7

Christians, if each one of us as individuals focuses on Jesus, The
Author and Perfector (Maturer) of our faith (trust) (Hebrews 12:2), we
will see the manifestation of the truth He spoke in John 14:26 &
16:13 (John 14:16-17). And focusing on the Holy Scriptures is a
practical way to focus on Jesus - The Word made flesh (John 1:1-18,
etc.). How could we not all agree about everything (which really is
Jesus THE truth (John 14:6 & Colossians 1:15-20)) if we are all as
individuals choosing to trust Him more than anything or anyone else,
including ourselves (Proverbs 3:5-6), and allowing Him to heal our trust
(Hebrews 12:2 again) - and by allowing Him to heal our trust, we would
be allowing Him to heal our choices and actions. Does anyone make even a
single choice that doesn't follow their trust?

God Bless.
