Where Did Our Love Go
The Supremes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Baby, baby, baby don't leave me
Ooh, please don't leave me all by myself
I've got this burning, burning, yearning feelin' inside me
Ooh, deep inside me and it hurts so bad

You came into my heart (baby, baby) so tenderly
With a burning love (baby, baby)
That stings like a bee (baby, baby)
Now that I surrender (baby, baby) so helplessly
You now want to leave (baby, baby)
Ooh, you wanna leave me (baby, baby)
Ooh (baby, baby)

Baby, baby, where did our love go?
Ooh, don't you want me?
Don't you want me no more (baby, baby)?
Ooh, baby

Baby, baby, where did our love go?
And all your promises of a love forevermore!
I've got this burning, burning, yearning feelin' inside me
Ooh, deep inside me, and it hurts so bad

Before you won my heart (baby, baby)
You were a perfect guy
But now that you got me
You wanna leave me behind (baby, baby)
Ooh, baby

Baby, baby, baby don't leave me

Ooh, please don't leave me all by myself (baby, baby)
Ooh baby, baby, baby

Overall Meaning

The Supremes' "Where Did Our Love Go" is a classic Motown track from the 1960s, and is often cited as one of the best pop songs of all time. The lyrics deal with the end of a romantic relationship and the feelings of hurt, confusion, and betrayal that often accompany such an event.

The song's opening lines set the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The singer pleads with her lover not to leave her alone and to reconsider their decision to end things. She has a deep, burning, yearning feeling inside her that is causing her pain, which is clearly evident in her vocals.

The second verse delves deeper into the singer's emotions, as she expresses her confusion at the sudden change in her lover's attitude. He had once been a "perfect guy" who had promised her "a love forevermore," but now he wants to leave her behind. She is left asking "where did our love go?" and wondering if he ever really loved her at all.

Overall, the lyrics to "Where Did Our Love Go" are a poignant reminder of the pain and confusion that often come with the end of a relationship. The song's catchy melody and upbeat tempo, however, make it a classic that remains popular to this day.

1:17 to 1:31, Magic! They look like they are floating on air. A perfect blend and synergy of choreography and music with that hard strumming guitar. Their moves are simple but exquisite. It is a pop music performance at it's PURE best.

It's a shame we can't see the dance Mary and Flo are performing at the top.

Mike Valvano, who was about 17 at the time, provided the 'foot-stomps' sound; he stamped down on two boards which gave the effect of a group of people foot-stomping, so I've read. Without minimising the superb work of the whole team at Motown - writers, singers, musicians, and sound crew - it was his sound that [I feel] drove the whole number. He was heavily involved in much other Motown work, too. RIP. But not forgotten.

Love this! It's by far my favourite live performance of this song! They're all incredible but Diana Ross is so hypnotising with how she performs on stage, I struggle to take my eyes off her. I think it's her smile and the way you can tell she loves what she's doing, which I guess is understandable when you have a voice like that! Thanks so much for sharing

i came here just to hear Mary Wilson sing "baby baby" (Right place) This is truly live and drummers will hear the great bass drum work. Sure enough at 1:32 it's Hal Blaine.

They were lovely visions to watch. Considering the time they were in where Black and White could not really mix they did very well.
At certain times when the camera is on Mary Wilson I can see Kelly Rowland 's face.
