Aint No Mountain High Enough
The Temptations Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Listen baby, ain't no mountain high
Ain't no valley low, ain't no river wide enough, baby
If you need me call me, no matter where you are
No matter how far
Don't worry, baby
Just call my name, I'll be there in a hurry
You don't need to worry
'Cause baby, there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you, babe

Remember the day I set you free
I told you you could always count on me, darlin' (yeah, baby)
From that day on, I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
Some way, some how

'Cause baby, there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you, babe

(Oh no, darlin') No wind, no rain
Or winter's cold can stop me, baby
(Oh no) 'Cause you are my goal
If you're ever in trouble
I'll be there on the double
Just send for me, oh baby

My love is alive
Way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I'll be there on the double
Just as fast as I can

Don't you know that there
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you, babe

Don't you know that there
Ain't no mountain high enough

Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Temptations' song "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" describe an unwavering devotion and commitment to someone. The singer reassures their loved one that no obstacle, whether it be a mountain, valley or river, will ever prevent them from being there for their significant other when needed. In fact, the singer promises to be there "in a hurry" if the person needs them, regardless of where they are, how far away they might be or how much trouble they might be in.

The lyrics are rooted in the belief that love is the most powerful force that exists, and nothing can stand in its way. The song suggests that love is stronger than even the most formidable and seemingly insurmountable natural barriers. At its core, the song expresses a deep and abiding love that transcends geography, obstacles, and circumstances.

The song became an anthem of sorts for the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, reflecting the hope and determination of those fighting for justice, freedom, and equality. In this context, the lyrics suggest that no obstacle is too great to overcome, that love can conquer all, and that hope and perseverance will ultimately triumph over adversity.

@edufau815

It wasn't just how they sang, but their choreography... They were great!

@brandonayong5823

You have to thank Paul Williams for that. When the temptations got together they really couldn't dance and Paul told them that if they are just singing on stage the fans might as well just buy the album to get the same result. If they come out to see you you have to entertain. And Paul was a smooth dancer too
