LoveLoveLove
LoveLoveLove

Me & my friend were walking
In the cold light of mourning.
Tears may blind the eyes but the soul is not deceived
In this world even winter ain't what it seems.
Here come the blue skies Here comes springtime.
When the rivers run high & the tears run dry.
When everything that dies.
Shall rise.

LoveLoveLove is stronger than death.
LoveLoveLove is stronger than death.

In our lives we hunger for those we cannot touch.
All the thoughts unuttered & all the feelings unexpressed
Play upon our hearts like the mist upon our breath.
But, awoken by grief, our spirits speak
"How could you believe that the life within the seed
that grew arms that reached
And a heart that beat.
And lips that smiled
And eyes that cried.
Could ever die?"

Here come the blue skies Here comes springtime.
When the rivers run high & the tears run dry.
When everything that dies.
Shall rise.

LoveLoveLove is stronger than death.
LoveLoveLove is stronger than death.

Shall rise. Shall rise.
Shall rise. Shall rise.

Overall Meaning

The The's song Love Is Stronger Than Death is a powerful and emotional exploration of the themes of loss, grief, and the enduring power of love. The opening verse sets the scene of two friends walking in mourning, acknowledging that tears may blind the eyes, but the soul cannot be deceived. The second verse speaks of the hunger we feel for those we cannot touch, and the weight of unexpressed thoughts and feelings. However, it is in times of grief that our spirits awaken and remind us that the life within the seed, which grew arms that reached, a heart that beat, and lips that smiled and cried, could never truly die. The chorus proclaims that love is, in fact, stronger than death and that everything that dies shall rise again.

Overall, the song is a powerful affirmation of the endurance of love and the human spirit. It acknowledges the pain and suffering of loss but ultimately encourages the listener to hold onto hope and to believe that love can persist even in the face of death.

My 30 yr-old nephew went missing while camping in Pagosa Springs CO in March ‘21. For 6 weeks, my family & I kept hope he just ran off to start a new life. His body was discovered by a river the middle of May ‘21. He had a troubled life (drugs and run-ins with the law), but he was so precious. I made a playlist of healing music and this was one of the first I added.
