Honestly I really love how small scale this movie is. Just bunch of teens with their new superpowers trying to survive. Wish more superhero movies would be in much smaller scale. Not everything has to be about 'the end of the world'

@husker4life109 can't deny that. It was ok at best. The reason why I praised it because it was different than most superhero movie which I already explained why. I do wish that it was executed better and hopefully we'll see something similar to this in MCU where the heroes fighting for their life trying to escape from the threat, and not another "oh nyoo... Our planet about to go boom boom for the 500809 times." And ofc with better writing and cinematography

It’s so well written and so terrifying at why illyana was so scared of the “smiling men.” Notice how they didn’t attack nobody, they were grabbing them and trying to take them away. I found Illyana's backstory and powers in the movie confusing. Were the smiley men real creatures she met as a child? Or was that how she remembers humans who abused her? Since this is a Dani's-power-runs-out-of-control story, that's important, because Dani would be (unconsciously) working from Illyana's perceptions and memories. And if Limbo was a place she created as opposed to a place that really existed, does that mean that Movie Illyana is not a sorceress the way she is in the comics? I hope that if the kids are rebooted into the MCU, Illyana is closer to the comic book version.

It's most likely because of the abuse she endured as a child, in the movie she states that she never knew their name, and every time they assaulted her and made her cry it made them smile, so that's how she remembers them

I dont know anything about the smiley face stuff but the limbo is an already existing dimension and the limbo that magik show in the movie is her pocket dimension which will later merge with the real limbo after she gain full control of her power iirc.

@Andrei Luciapao BSIE -2 Limbo is a "real place" in the comic book, but the movie left me with the impression that Limbo was something she imagined that her mutant power made real. Nor was it clear that in the movie she could go anywhere in time and space; it seemed to help her avoid smashing into walls. So I don't think that she was a sorceress in the movie; everything and every place associated with her was created by her mutant power. As much as I loved Anna Taylor-Joy's performance, I hope that if/when she appears in the MCU she is both a mutant AND a sorceress, even if they have to simplify her back story. The "seven years in a few seconds" thing might confuse some people.

@Xenulus it's called fear. People get scared you know, especially if they're inexperienced in terms of combat, and actual threats even if characters have superpowers. But they'll get used to it eventually due to experience, cuz you can't just expect a character to be an expert on their first day of combat, otherwise the whole story, and sequence would be boring as hell, and no their not acting irrational, they're just scared.

Fox really dropped the ball with The New Mutants. It should have been a streaming series taking place in Xavier's school and it could have had the same popularity as Harry Potter or Wednesday. Throughout the first season they could have done flashbacks to Illyana's time in Limbo as a kid. The Demon Bear saga could have been finale of season 1. Instead they made a movie that tried to copy Stephen King's It.

The way the smiley men fight is so weird. Their appearance and voice alone appear hostile and mindless but the way they move made it seem like they mostly rely on their sense of touch to get around. It's also weird how when they actually touch them, they make a loud ass noise before attacking or do anything else other than using their sharp teeth and claws. I expected them to be a bit more vicious and aggressive but they're more like those people who work at horror houses in carnivals but with better looking costumes

This movie did not get the recognition it deserved. The characters alone where very good and i hope they make a part 2. Theoretically it follows after Logan. So hopefully, we see some new "x-men" teams.

I love the X-Men...I'm a huge fan since I was a kid in the 80s, but this movie was pretty bad unfortunately. I love the new mutants great stories by Claremont and art by bill Sienkiewicz, but this was pathetic. I can't stand the actress playing magik, I think that's why I didn't connect to the movie, and the story was crap. Im still hoping to get another generation X film or TV show/ cartoon...but I doubt it.🤷🏻‍♂️ The sunspot in days of future past was better. This version he was kind of a self-centered dick. No magma, no karma, they are great characters...I can go on why this sucks ..
