Release Me
The Tiger Lillies Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sweet suicide release me
From all of this pain
Another night of torment
Never sunshine always rain

And it never helps the kindness
That people try to show
Just makes it feel more tragic
Release me let me go

I am drowning in the greyness
Suffocating in this grief
Tell me my life is not mine to take
Go ahead, call me a thief

And it never helps the kindness
That people try to show
Just makes it feel more tragic
Release me let me go

I'm drowning in the pain
That my life does make
Broken spirit broken soul
No more can I take

I'm drowning in the moonbeams
The blackest night
Reflecting a glass
I give up the fight

Swallowed up
With no air to breathe
Broken by your words
How they deceive the poisoned by revenge
And bitter spite

I donโ€™t care if you're right
Don't care if you're wrong or right
There the water it beckons me
An early grave that waits for me

Overall Meaning

The Tiger Lilliesโ€™ song Release Me delves deep into the theme of suicide as the lyrics describe the pain, grief, and torment felt by someone who sees death as a relief from their crushing circumstances. The singer pleads for release from the unbearable agony they feel, the ever-present rain and grief that consume them. They talk about the futility of kindness and how it feels even more tragic as it doesn't change their dark state of mind. The lyrics describe drowning in the greyness, wanting to stop the pain their life is causing, and feeling broken in spirit and soul beyond repair. The moonbeams and blackest night reflecting a glass represent the bleakness and despair present at every turn of their life, leading to a feeling of defeat. They describe being swallowed up with no air to breathe, broken by the words of others filled with revenge and spite. The song ends with an impassioned plea to be released from the never-ending pain through suicide.

The song's strength lies in its deep empathy for those contemplating taking their own life. The lyrics and melancholic melody create a visceral impact on the listener, bringing to light the raw reality of suicidal thoughts and the overwhelming sense of despair that an individual in that state feels. Even though the song is emotionally heavy, it aims to create a safe space for the listener and encourages empathy and understanding. The lyrics are a call for society to take mental health seriously and provide support for those in need, without stigma, shame or judgement.

Dulce suicidio, libรฉrame
De todo este dolor
Otra noche de tormento
Nunca amanece, siempre llueve.

Y nunca ayuda la bondad
Que la gente intenta demostrar
Simplemente me hace sentir mรกs trรกgico
Libรฉrame, dรฉjame partir.

Ahogรกndome en lo sombrรญo
Sofocado en este dolor
Dime que mi vida no es mรญa para tomarla
Llรกmame ladrรณn.

Ahogรกndome en el dolor
Que mi vida provoca
Espรญritu roto, alma rota
No puedo hacer mรกs.

Ahogรกndome en los destellos de la luna
De la noche mรกs negra
Reflejada en el cristal, eso es todo
Renuncio a la lucha.

Tragado
Sin aire para respirar
Roto por tus palabras
ยฟCรณmo pudiste mentir?
Estoy envenenado de venganza
Y rencor amargo.

No importa si te equivocas
O si tienes la razรณn
El agua me llama
Una tumba temprana espera por mรญ.

Dulce suicidio, libรฉrame
De toda esta miseria
Dulce suicidio, libรฉrame
Hazme libre
Hazme libre
Hazme libre.

I can't imagine one could perform this better, cos it's a masterpiece, created by the greatest composers of Art. Every time, returning back to Tiger lillies, I get only this: the understanding of everything.

Stunning ~ the dark dwelling within us ~ feeling the light and shade of deep emotions. Beautiful.

@MsAnna2206

This voice, these lyrics, this music...inside my heart!

@christocr

Interesting combination: the lyrics are certainly depressing and dark, but I don't find the music depressing at all. I find it beautiful, sublime, and very relaxing. It's like floating on a cloud. I would love this sort of music as just instrumental--not to say that I don't like the song the way it is. It's just that without the lyrics it would be just refreshing; with the lyrics, it's a mixture of refreshing, sad, and dark.

@krasotka_Nelly

Yes, I totally agree with you
I like a contract between relaxing music and dark lyrics about broken person who has given up

It does not have lyrics, but the music is enough ๐Ÿ˜
