Rescue Me
The Tribe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He's crafty
He senses many ways to quiet me
He's clever
Hurry up, hurry up he's calling
He's waiting for me down there
Hurry up, hurry up he's calling
He cannot wait to tell me
He does not accept my reasoning
He's angry
He suspects his charms are failing him
He's anxious
Hurry up, hurry up he's calling
He's learned a perfect rhythm
Let me in, let me in he's sorry
He's sure I'll swoon when I hear him
The lyrics of The Tribe's "Rescue Me" suggest a complicated relationship between the singer and their significant other. The lines "he knows how to make me feel tragedy, he's crafty" suggest that the partner has hurt the singer intentionally in the past. The partner is also described as "clever" and "anxious," suggesting that they are manipulative and possibly emotionally abusive. The chorus, in which the partner says "I will rescue you" and "let me in, let me in he's sorry," hints at a cycle of behavior in which the partner hurts the singer and then apologizes and promises to change.
The repeated lines of "hurry up, hurry up he's calling" suggest a sense of urgency and desperation on the part of the partner, who seems to need constant validation and attention from the singer. The singer describes the partner's "suspicions" and "anger" when their charms don't work, suggesting that the partner may feel entitled to the singer's attention and may react badly if they don't get it. Overall, the lyrics suggest a relationship that is fraught with tension and manipulation, in which the partner is constantly seeking control over the singer.
