I Know
The Two Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Go back a few years now
I knew it all
I was going to change the world
By standing tall
You'd be walking down my street
I'd tell you my name
I'd tell you what to think
And how you should change
And I wish I knew then what I know now
And I wish I knew then what I know now
Things are different and things have changed
I'm not the same
I've a different view of the world
And it has a different name
I'll be marching down your street
Shout out my name
You can think what you think
But it's just not a game
And I wish I knew then what I know now
And I wish I knew then what I know now
If you're not part of the solution
You're part of the problem
If you're not part of the solution
You're part of the problem
And I wish I knew then what I know now
And I wish I knew then what I know now
And I wish I knew then what I know now
And I wish I knew then what I know now
And I wish I knew then what I know now
And I wish I knew then what I know now

And I wish I knew then what I know now
And I wish I knew then what I know now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Two's song "I Know" speak to the evolution of personal growth and perspective. The singer reflects on a past version of themselves, one that was arrogant and thought they had all the answers. They believed they could change the world simply by staying true to their convictions and telling others what to think. However, the singer now recognizes how misguided this approach was and how their worldview has matured. They acknowledge that the world is not as black and white as they once believed, and that true solutions are more complex than just having the right opinion.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of being part of the solution rather than contributing to the problem. It seems the singer has learned that there is more to social change than just having strong beliefs; action and empathy are necessary components as well. By acknowledging their past mistakes and growth, the singer is encouraging listeners to also reflect on their own beliefs and actions. The song acknowledges that change is a process and that growth is not always comfortable, but it is necessary for true progress.

In a few weeks I will get time
To realize it's right before my eyes
And I can take it if it's what I want to do
I am leaving This is starting to feel like
It's right before my eyes
And I can taste it
It's my sweet beginning
And I can tell just what you want
You don't want to be alone
You don't want to be alone
And I can't say it's what you know
But you've known it the whole time
Yeah, you've known it the whole time
Maybe next year I'll have no time
To think about the questions to address
Am I the one to try to stop the fire?
I wouldn't test you I'm not the best you could have attained
Why try anything?
I will get there
Just remember I know
And I can tell just what you want
You don't want to be alone
You don't want to be alone
And I can't say it's what you know
But you've known it the whole time
Yeah, you've known it the whole time
And I can tell just what you want
You don't want to be alone
You don't want to be alone
And I can't say it's what you know
But you've known it the whole time
Yeah, you've known it the whole time

I've been looking for this for roughly 8 years. I'm not joking, I heard this as a kid on radio and it was my jam for a short moment. I just never forgot I'd heard it, so here, 2019 I'm listening to our school announcements. They play a bit of music until the bell rings and this came up! I listened intently and typed the lyrics I heard to find the song. I am in love, I refuse to forget something like this, nostalgic as hell!

Yeah, somehow this is one of those songs where the chorus just randomly pops into my mind for years, and this is the first time I thought to look it up. Glad to have found it! The instrumentals are so unique, they're hard to forget.

this song was ahead of it's time. it sounds like something an indie band would've made about a month ago.
