This Train
The Wailers Lyrics

When I was just a kid, little children
My old man used to sing a litle song
But now I've grown to be a man
But it still lingers deep within my soul
Oh yes it lingers deep within my soul

He say now this train it is bound to glory, this train
This train it is bound to glory this train, this train
This train it is bound to glory, This train it don't carry no unholy
This train is bound to glory, this train

Now this train it don't carry no backsliders, this train
This train don't carry no backsliders, this train
This train it don't carry no backsliders this train only carrry JAH JAH children
This train it is bound to glory, this train
Play a little song for me

----

This train don't carry no unholy this train.
This train don't carry no unholy this train
This train it don't carry no unholy,
This train only carry the children of JAH
This train it is bound to glory, this train

There's so many things to remember
So many things to forget
But these word they do linger deep within my soul
Lingers deep within my soul

He say now this train it is bound to glory, this train
This train it is bound to glory this train, this train
This train it is bound to glory, This train it don't carry no unholy
This train is bound to glory, this train

(let me hear the choir sing)
This train
This train
This train (I don't wanna be late)
This train
This train

This train is bound to glory
This train is bound to glory. Yau (repeat)

(ADLIBBING),
I'll be turning back for no brother no sister
No friend no nothing at all

I'll be crabbing the morning train
The evening train will be too late (repeat)

Grab on brothers
Grab on sisters
Grab on mother
Grab on father

Grab on friend
THIS TRAIN.

Overall Meaning

The Wailers' song "This Train" follows a man remembering a little song his father used to sing when he was a child. The song speaks of a train that is bound for glory, and that it carries only Jah's children, meaning those who live a righteous and pure life. The train does not carry any unholy people or backsliders. The lyrics emphasize the importance of remaining pure and true to one's faith to be able to board the train that leads to glory in the afterlife.

The song's lyrics highlight the belief of many Rastafarians that they are participants in the journey from Babylon to the Promised Land. Babylon symbolizes the oppressive society that they endured, while Zion represents the place of freedom and total liberty. The train in this song represents the means to get away from Babylon, and the train is bound to glory.

The song "This Train" became hugely popular in Jamaica in the early 1960s, primarily through the radio, which helped the song to spread throughout the island. Its lyrics were viewed as a call to moral uprightness and political resistance, and its upbeat sound made it a favorite at dances and cultural events. Overall, the song is interpreted as a reminder for those who believe to live up to their faith and to avoid sin so that they can board the train that leads to Zion.

Now I am a man, I remember my mamaΒ΄s song,_
& the feeling that it gives still lingers deep within my soul
Wailer's father Thaddeus "Thaddy Shut" Livingston lived with Marley's mother Cedella Booker in Trenchtown and had a daughter with her named Pearl Livingston. Peter Tosh had a son, Andrew Tosh, with Wailer's sister Shirley, making Andrew his nephew. wiki
My condolences to all of his family and friends. I got to see him at The University Of Hartford while attending in the early 90's. Went to the tour bus then I got lucky. Thanks for the soul, music , & everything!
