Get Off
The Warhols Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah like it or not.
Like a ball and a chain.
All I want to do is get off, I feel it for a minute babe.
Hot diggity dog, I love god all the same.
But all i wanna do is get off, I feel it, I feel it, I feel it babe.

Baby, come on yeah, If you have a hard time gettin' there, maybe you're gone.
If you find, you find yourself forget yourself.

Yeah maybe I fought.
One thought I was saved.
But all I wanna do is get off,
and feel it for a minute like the real thing baby, I guess.
I already forgot, what I thought I would say.
But all i wanna do is get off. I feel it, I feel it, I feel it babe.

Baby, come on yeah. If you have a hard time gettin' there, maybe you're gone.
If you find, you find yourself, forget yourself.
Hey, come on yeah. If you have a hard time gettin' there, maybe you're gone.
If you find, you find yourself forget yourself.

And like it or not, Like a ball and a chain.
All I wanna do is get off.
And feel it for a minute like the real thing baby, oh yes.
I already forgot, what I thought I would say.
But all I wanna do is get off, I feel it, I feel it, I feel it babe.

Baby, come on yeah. If you have a hard time gettin' there, maybe you're gone.
If you find, you find yourself, forget yourself.

Hey, Come on yeah, If you have a hard time gettin' there, maybe your gone.
If you find yourself, forget yourself. Hey!

Overall Meaning

The Warhols's song Get Off is a raw and energetic anthem that speaks about the need to escape from the pressures and constraints of society. The lyrics begin with a bold declaration that the singer wants to break free from the shackles that bind them, like a ball and chain, and all they want to do is "get off." The phrase "get off" has several interpretations, ranging from the sexual connotation of reaching orgasm to the emotional release of breaking free from societal norms.

The lyrics emphasize that the singer is experiencing a powerful urge to escape, and they feel it for a minute like the real thing. This suggests that the desire for freedom is so intense that it feels like a physical sensation that needs to be released. However, despite their rebellion, the singer acknowledges their love for God, indicating a tension between their desire for self-expression and their religious beliefs.

The chorus emphasizes that if one finds it hard to achieve liberation, they may already be gone. The lyrics urge the listener to forget themselves and release their inner desires. The repetition of the phrase "If you find, you find yourself forget yourself" reinforces the idea of letting go of societal expectations and fully embracing oneself.

Overall, The Warhols's song Get Off is a rebellious call to break free from societal constraints and embrace one's inner desires. The lyrics use powerful imagery and repetition to convey the intensity of the singer's feelings and encourage the listener to do the same.

Yeah, like it or not
Like a ball and a chain
All I wanna do is get off
And feel it for a minute, babe

Hot diggity dog
I love God all the same
But all I wanna do is get off
And feel it, feel it, feel it, babe

Baby, come on, yeah
If you have a hard time getting there
Maybe, you're gone
If you find, find yourself against yourself

Yeah maybe I thought
What I thought I would say
That all I wanna do is get off
And feel it for a minute
Like a real thing, baby, again

I already forgot
Why I thought I was sane
When all I wanna do is get off
And feel it, feel it, feel it babe
Baby, come on, yeah
If you have a hard time getting there
Maybe you're gone
If you find, find yourself against yourself

Hey, come on, yeah
If you have a hard time getting there
Maybe you're gone
If you find, find yourself against yourself

And like it or not
Like a ball and a chain
All I wanna do is get off
And feel for a minute
Like a real thing, baby, oh yeah

I already forgot
Why I thought I was sane
But all I wanna do is get off
And feel it, feel it, feel it, babe

Baby, come on, yeah
If you have a hard time getting there
Maybe you're gone
If you find, find yourself against yourself
Hey, come on, yeah
If you have a hard time getting there
Maybe you're gone
If you find, you find yourself against yourself

I want to say that this is one of the most unappreciated songs ever made, but I can see from the comments that the right people can show this song the right appreciation it deserves. One of the best singing perfomances in pop music history. Fluent and natural are the best adjectives to describe what this stirs up in me. It's like a gentle periodically popping up push on my back giving me momentum when I feel it's getting harder to go forward and I'm going against myself. The accuracy of the lyrics is painful but beautiful. 🖤
