This film was a moderate success (it doubled it's budget) and that is mostly because the book has a cult following.
This is a classic example of marketing done all wrong. If I had made this trailer I'd have eliminated the completely misleading narrator. I would have included Rob's "Desert Island Top Five Most Memorable Breakups" monologue. And I would have mentioned that it is based on a bestselling novel that is almost a cultural landmark for Gen-X and Early Millennials.

I watched High Fidelity for the first time when I was 18 and working at Hollywood Video, and I loved it. A decade later, I watched it again, and I loved it even more. A couple years later I check out this trailer, and I'm starting to have doubts like, "Maybe it wasn't that great after all..."

This is a weird trailer, both in it's tone and how it presents the story. It makes it looks like the film is about the Rob-Laura-Ian love triangle, whicht it isn't. It's about Rob's fear of commitment and inability to talk about his feelings through other means than his record collection.
Also I think it's funny they had to upgrade Rob's record shop from "just getting by" to succesull for the sake of an American audiance.

This trailer fails when it comes to the actual movie. It's not about him finding love really, it's about John Cusack's character Rob finding out where his past relationships from Elementary to present had failed. So he goes back to meet his ex- girlfriend's revealing in the meen time how much of a despicable peice of shit he really is, oh yeah and there's Jack Black being Jack Black.

What a terrible idea to remake this . Only made because Zoe Kravitz mother was in the original. Plus Zoe Kravitz cannot act. John cusack is a believable music lover Zoe Kravitz happens to be related to talented people who happen to be musicians.
