Throughout the band's history, members have regularly been replaced, with the only constant member being the band's founder, singer and guitarist Ginger. Several band members have appeared in the line-up more than once. The band has also been split up or placed on hiatus by Ginger multiple times. In the 2010s, the band convened occasionally for various anniversary tours. A 2018 anniversary tour by the band's 1995 lineup led to a return to the studio. They released a new album in 2019 after a ten-year hiatus. Their most recent album, 21st Century Love Songs, was released in September 2021.

Bang!
The Wildhearts Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You’re never gonna faze her with what you say
She’s got a certain kind of something
And I do believe it’s working so what the hey?
Come the way you are (Come the way you are)
Come the way you please (Come the way you please)
Come the way you were when you brought me to my knees
Let’s stay the way we please (Stay the way we please)
When we’re staying calm we don’t seem like enemies
And then bang!
Like a missile nixing my plan
You fixed this son of a bitch and God damn
You made me a man
God damn, you made me a man
Bang! Like a missile nixing my plan
You fixed this son of a bitch and God damn
You made me a man
God damn, you made me a man
You made me a man
You made me a man
I tried everything to warn her
But she got me in a corner and made me smile
And I can’t see her ever leaving
So long as she is breathing; so long as she’s mine
Come the way you are (Come the way you are)
Come the way you please (Come the way you please)
Come the way you were when you brought me to my knees
Let’s stay the way we are (Stay the way we are)
Let’s stay the way we please (Stay the way we please)
When we’re staying calm we don’t seem like enemies
And then bang!
Like a missile nixing my plan
You fixed this son of a bitch and God damn
You made me a man
God damn, you made me a man
Bang! Like a missile nixing my plan
You fixed this son of a bitch and God damn
You made me a man
God damn, you made me a man
You made me a man
You made me a man
Yeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!
Bang! Like a missile nixing my plan
You fixed this son of a bitch and God damn
You made me a man,
God damn, you made me a man
Bang! Like a missile nixing my plan
You fixed this son of a bitch and God damn
You made me a man
God damn, you made me a man
You made me a man
You made me a man
The Wildhearts's song Bang! is about a woman who has a certain something about her that is captivating. The lyrics suggest that the woman is not just a pretty face but someone that is tough and resilient. She is not phased by what others say or do, and has a strength that draws people towards her. The song highlights the power of love and how it can transform a person.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Come the way you are, come the way you please," which suggests that love should not change a person. The singer is content with the person they are in the relationship and wishes to stay the way they are. The chorus also suggests that when people stay calm, they don't seem like enemies, which highlights the importance of communication and non-violent conflict resolution.
The song's lyrics are punk-inspired and rebellious, with the chorus serving as a call to arms for all those who want to be themselves without fear of judgement. The repetition of "Bang!" in the chorus emphasizes the explosive power of love and its ability to transform a person's life.
