When you’re back
Just let me know
We need a catch up
When you’re home
From that other place you go
Just like every other time
Ahhhh ahhhh
When I’m with you but without you
How the time can stand so still
Wish I knew the words to bring you back into the room
When I’m with you but without you
How the the nights can feel so long
I know you know I care but now I don’t know what to do
Today I found a photo
That reminded me of how
Things were a little easier
Before life pulled you round
Your silence gets too loud for me
Cause I don’t like the sound
Ahhhh ahhhh
(Bridge)
When I’m with you but without you
How the time can stand so still
Wish I knew the words to bring you back into the room
When I’m with you but without you
How the the nights can feel so long
I know you know I care but now I don’t know what to do
Tomorrow is another day
I’ll check back in once more
I’ll try again In hope
that I'm not faced with a closed door
Thea's song "Homecoming" is about the sadness and longing felt for a loved one who is away, likely due to some obligation or responsibility. The lyrics are quite straightforward: the singer wants to catch up with this person and feels that their absence has created a void in their life. The chorus highlights the surreal feeling of being with someone yet still feeling like they are not truly present, and the bridge amplifies this feeling by stating that time can stand still and nights can feel long when this person is physically present but emotionally distant.
The line "Today I found a photo/ That reminded me of how/ Things were a little easier/ Before life pulled you round" is particularly poignant because it speaks to the idea that life is what is keeping these two people apart, and that the weight of responsibility can be heavy and isolating. The singer wants to be there for their loved one, but their loved one is preoccupied with other matters.
The last lyric, "Tomorrow is another day/ I’ll check back in once more/ I’ll try again In hope/ that I'm not faced with a closed door," is a glimmer of hope that the two will be able to reconnect and catch up in the near future.
