It
Theory Hazit Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It came upon the midnight clear
That glorious song of old
From Angels playing near the earth
To touch their harps of gold

Peace on the earth could will two men
From Heaven's all-gracious King
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the Angels sing

And I hear them singing
Sing, I do hear them singing

The first Noel the Angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay

In fields where they lay, they keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep

Overall Meaning

Theory Hazit's song "It" starts with the verses of "It came upon the midnight clear", a Christmas carol penned by Edmund Sears in 1849. According to the lyrics, an event happened at the time of the night, where suddenly a group of angels appeared, and started to play their "harps of gold" near the earth. They were creating such an alluring melody that is stated to be the "glorious song of old", which can be a reference to the carol itself which mentions the birth of Jesus Christ. The song then goes on to describe the tranquility that the presence of the angels brings, as the whole world lie in a state of solemn stillness to hear the divine singing, which is a portrayal of the calmness that the nativity of Jesus brings to the world.

In the later part of the song, the lyrics of a familiar carol, "The First Noel", come into play. The song tells how the angels announced the birth of Jesus Christ to the poor shepherds in the fields. The shepherds then went to visit the newborn king as the star in the sky guided them. In the chorus, the singer repeatedly hears the singing of the angels and reiterates what those celestial beings sang to the shepherds that holy night. The notions presented in the song emphasize the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ and the belief in Christianity, which is that his birth brought peace and hope to humanity.
