After playing in the subway and on many small scenes with Polar Eyes both in Montreal and elsewhere, Thierry Bruyère tried his luck in french to share with his public his musical universe which combines British melancholy, folk and pop sounds and a pen that claims his American Frenchness.
Produced by Navet Confit, Thierry's first album also include contributions from Vincent Blain (L'indice), Marc Chartrain (Pascale Picard, Damien Robitaille, Les Chiens) and Émilie Proulx.

Elles me permettent d’oublier
The lyrics of Thierry Bruyère's song "Au service de Sa Majesté" delve into themes of disillusionment with fairy tales and the desire to escape from the realities of life. The opening lines express a sense of repetition and disappointment, as the heroes disappear and the fairy tale concept of prince charmings is no longer believed in. The singer no longer finds magic in fairy tales, relegating it to something only for television. Instead, their happiness lies in material possessions, which they suggest others can also have if they buy it. This can be seen as a critique of consumer culture, where happiness is equated with material wealth.
The second stanza introduces the idea of using the girls on television as a means of escaping from personal struggles and broken relationships. The singer specifically mentions their family whom they no longer communicate with and a wife who does not love them as she did before. The reference to thousands of people attending a ball in honor of Sa Majesté (the Majesty) symbolizes a larger society that blindly follows and supports a figure of power, turning a blind eye to their own struggles.
The mention of Cinderella being exhausted and ordered to shine the shoes that the singer will wear to dance carries a metaphorical meaning. It suggests that even in a seemingly glamorous situation, the tasks and obligations can be burdensome. The final repetition of not believing in fairy tales emphasizes the singer's disillusionment, asserting that they no longer hold onto the hope and idealism that such stories once offered.
