The Reckoning
This Is Hell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've risked life and death

I've risked life and death, and given every breath
I've thrown caution to the wind
I looked fear in the face when I should have played it safe
Now there's no chance to make amends

The line between stress and apathy have been blurred
Not being here, my greatest fears have been confirmed
Don't insult me with false sympathy or act concerned
Just when I needed help from someone else: your back's turned

I've risked life and death, and now there's nothing left
But memories and regret
I've looked fear in the face, made memories that can't be erased
Devastation you can't forget. Yeah!

The line between stress and apathy have been blurred
Not being here, my greatest fears have been confirmed
Don't insult me with false sympathy or act concerned
Just when I needed help from someone else: your back's turned

Say goodbye to family, I'm saying goodbye to friends
'Cause I know our time is short, and all things said:
I'm losing rationale. I'm losing control
This world has taken it's toll

There'll be a reckoning for the devastation done here today
There'll be a reckoning for the devastation done here today

[Guitar solo]

There'll be a reckoning for the devastation done here today
There'll be a reckoning for the devastation done here today

people of america, please, stop calling metalcore bands hardcore. and take note. this shit is as good as hardcore gets.

eric elmore

How can someone think this isn't hardcore..?

Noah Brierley

some of rise against songs I would call hardcore like State of the Union, To the Core, grammitizator, voice of dissent, and built to last(SOIA cover) and many more from their early stuff but now most stuff there stuff is just straight up punk

mountainjoe13

its oldstyle harcore. the original hardcore type stuff

ForFearItself

Yeah its the original definition of hardcore... but bands like like moths to flames are considered hardcore these days... and id consider rise against or silverstein post hardcore

puffaroo

Rise needs to stick with This Is Hell, American Me, and Legend and they'll be fine.

@123fouryearstrong Screamo isnt even a music genre, so they can't get classified as such. and they do layer their screams, A LOT of bands do. A LOT. and he screams more lows on the first album, and he does about equal with highs and lows live.

Easton Hawk

@NickIsTheMan15 ..they fit in it. yeah i know i'm sure every band does.. for emphasis not an ENTIRE SONG. he just isnt as good as everyone says, if you belt out with enough force you can scream exactly like him..

puffaroo

@Skullcandy0928 Yeah those were just the only rise bands I like. Plus The Plot In You and The Air I Breathe.

Nick Y

@123fouryearstrong it's actually kind of funny that you say that, because there isnt that big of a difference if any at all between an asking alexandria live show and studio. im gonna be honest im not a big AA fan, but i know his vocals arent "bullshitted"
