Ian also contributed to the "Song For Africa" project which started in August 2006.

Falling To Pieces
Thornley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That's when I know that I'm alive And all the things we'll leave behind
We finally found what we can find
The rest of my life is falling to pieces
While we get lost inside the moment
The waves keep crashing at my door
And all the time I gave away
Made me who I am today
The rest of my life is falling to pieces
And where would I be now without you baby
The rest of my life is falling to pieces
The rest of my life is falling to pieces
While we get lost inside the moment
The rest of my life is falling to pieces
And where would I be now without you baby
In "Falling To Pieces," Thornley sings about finding happiness in the present moment despite the chaos and uncertainty of life. The opening verse describes the excitement felt by the singer when they see their loved one approaching, suggesting that their presence brings joy and meaning to their life. Despite this moment of happiness, the chorus repeatedly reminds us that the rest of the singer's life is falling apart. However, the paradox here is that in the midst of this chaos and uncertainty, the singer finds solace in their relationship; they "get lost inside the moment" with their loved one.
The second verse further emphasizes the chaos of life with the metaphor of waves crashing at the singer's door. However, rather than being overwhelmed and defeated by the metaphorical waves, the singer has learned from the time they've spent with their loved one. The line "all the time I gave away made me who I am today" suggests that the influence of the past, and learned lessons, bring the singer solace in the present moment. The final chorus repeats that sentiment, stating that the singer's life would be in shambles without their loved one.
Overall, this song is about finding solace amidst the chaos of life and embracing the present moment with someone we care about. It suggests that through difficult times, it's important to cherish the people and moments that bring happiness into our lives.
