Through the Roots Lyrics

People think it's cool to be cold these days
They've got it all mixed up doing the strangest things
So many hearts that are filled with hate
Man it's such a shame
Yea I hate to say it
This generation is so californiacated
But this cultures being poorly demonstrated
And You can call me crazy
But I see through your bullshit
You act like it's ok that the world can't get along
But I could never fake like there ain't nothing wrong
No I don't want to live that way
People think it's cool to be cold these days
They've got it all mixed up doing the strangest things
So many hearts that are filled with hate
Man it's such a shame
Think you're in heaven but you're living in hell
Strip away the mask that you wear so well
This material world, gotta have what's new
The possession that you own end up owning you
You can call me crazy
But I see through your bullshit
You act like it's ok that the world can't get along
I could never fake like there ain't nothing wrong
No I don't want to live that way
People think it's cool to be cold these days
They've got it all mixed up doing the strangest things
So many hearts that are filled with hate
Man it's such a shame
Identity's found when you dig with in
Too many begging lord can I please fit in
Start being yourself, stop counterfeit-in
It's a beautiful thing to be different
You're one of a kind so why pretend
Don't get mixed up your the perfect blend
Start living for you stop livin' for them
Talking bout the ones yea those called friends
Might have beauty but they lack substance
Rather watch you sink than watch you swim
Keep close the ones that will keep you afloat
You cant dive deep in the shallow end
Playin their games living by their rules
Tryin to be them though you know it aint you
Now all the mirror reflects is a fool
Come to find out it ain't so cool to be cool
You can call me crazy
But I see through your bullshit
You act like it's ok that the world can't get along
But I could never fake like there ain't nothin' wrong
No, I don't want to live that way
People think it's cool to be cold these days
They've got it all mixed up doing the strangest things
So many hearts that are filled with hate
Man it's such a shame
I guess you don't know me
Cuz if you did then you'd know what I'm about
I've got all I need
This california dream I could live with out
You're acting so happy
You've worn out that smile on your mouth
If I wanted to I could be just like you but,
No, I don't want to live that way
People think it's cool to be cold these days
They've got it all mixed up doing the strangest things
So many hearts that are filled with hate
Man it's such a shame
The lyrics of Through the Roots's song "Such a Shame" provide a poignant commentary on the societal norms and behaviors prevalent in today's world. The singer expresses a strong aversion to living in a superficial and cold manner, where people prioritize material possessions and fake personas over genuine connections and self-discovery. The opening lines convey the frustration with the current mindset that being cold and detached is somehow admirable when in reality, it only leads to hearts filled with hate and misunderstanding.
The reference to the generation being "so californiacated" highlights a broader critique of a culture that values superficiality and surface-level appearances over authenticity. The singer acknowledges the beauty of the West Coast but criticizes the way its culture is being misrepresented and poorly exemplified. There is a clear call for a shift in mentality towards embracing individuality and rejecting societal pressures to conform to a shallow and materialistic standard.
The lyrics also touch upon the concept of identity and the importance of looking within oneself for fulfillment rather than seeking validation from external sources. The emphasis on being true to oneself and avoiding the temptation to conform to others' expectations is a central theme throughout the song. The singer urges listeners to embrace their uniqueness and to not succumb to the pressures of fitting in or following the crowd blindly.
The repeated refrain of "No, I don't want to live that way" underscores the singer's resolve to resist the negative influences of a society that values appearances over substance. The song serves as a powerful reminder to stay true to one's values, to seek genuine connections, and to reject the distorted notions of what it means to be cool or successful. Ultimately, "Such a Shame" encourages listeners to embrace their individuality, to confront societal expectations, and to strive for authenticity in a world that often prioritizes conformity and material gain.
