Tiken Jah was born into a family of griots and christened Doumbia Moussa Fakoly on June 23, 1968 in Odienne, north-western Côte d'Ivoire. He discovered reggae at an early age, assembling his first group, Djelys, in 1987. He became well-known at a regional level, but would soon ascend to national recognition.
Concerned by the social and political evolution of his country, it was not long before Tiken Jah was writing incisive works on the political environment in Côte d'Ivoire. One such work was on the death of Felix Houphouet-Boigny in 1993, which resulted in a surge of popularity amongst the nation's youth. In 1998, Fakoly made his first international appearance in Paris.
Tiken Jah Fakoly plays music "to wake up the consciences". His music speaks about many injustices done to the people of his country, and those over Africa. As such, African listeners feel a deep affinity with his lyrics as Fakoly speaks for people whom are under oppression. This connection has helped make Tiken Jah Fakoly a much-listened artist throughout both Europe and Africa.

In the song "Un autre monde est possible" by Tiken Jah Fakoly, the lyrics reflect a powerful message about inequalities and injustices in the world. The opening lines speak about fortifying borders and building watchtowers to separate oneself from misery in an attempt to protect wealth and treasures. The lyrics question the effectiveness of these actions and highlight that an hungry man is an angry man, illustrating the desperation and frustration that leads individuals to take risky journeys across the sea in search of a better life.
The lyrics emphasize the rights of all individuals to live and provide for their families, critiquing the greed and exploitation that drive the global economy. The imagery of a handful of "bloodsuckers" dividing up the world's wealth while disregarding the basic rights of people to live and thrive underscores the inherent injustice in the current system. The song challenges the notion of passively waiting for change, urging individuals to recognize the dignity and rights of every human being, regardless of their background or circumstances.
The chorus reinforces the idea that a different world is not only possible but necessary, as people around the globe are tired of begging for their dignity and freedom, two fundamental aspects that are routinely stripped away from them. The lyrics point out the vast disparities in resource distribution, suggesting that the perpetual cycle of poverty and suffering is not inevitable but rather a result of deliberate choices made by those in power. The call to action is clear: it is time to rewrite the rules of the game and work towards a more equitable and just society for all.
The song concludes by emphasizing the equal value of every human life, regardless of gender or race, and advocates for a shift from charity to true sharing and solidarity. By acknowledging the inherent worth and potential of every individual, the lyrics inspire listeners to move beyond mere sympathy towards a more rational and sustainable approach to addressing global inequities. The repeated assertion that "another world is possible" serves as a hopeful reminder that collective action and a commitment to genuine sharing can pave the way for a brighter and fairer future.
