Listening Tree
Tim Exile Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come with me, look out the window there,
Down there where you might have never looked before.

There's a path that leads
Towards the listening tree.
He's so pleased to hear from me.

Let's go out, take me.
Let's go out to the listening tree.

If cold fingers reach deep into you,
It's time to believe in what in seems untrue.
Down ‘round there’s something waiting for you,
The listening tree has a message for you.

All you need to be is here,
Right here beneath the listening tree.
It's the springtime here
This time of year.
This is the...

Don't waste more time or tears,
Unpack yourself, fold up your fears,
And lie here right by me underneath
The ears that listen away the darkness inside.
Sit down and share with me the sound of the listening tree.

Come, come feel yourself right here.
Come and move just like this is.

Don't waste more time or tears,
Unpack yourself, fold up your fears,
And lie here right by me underneath
The ears that listen away the darkness inside.
Sit down and share with me the sound of the listening tree.

Come.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tim Exile's "Listening Tree" evoke a sense of comfort and refuge through nature imagery. The song invites the listener to come along with the singer to discover something new and inspiring outside of their everyday routine. The path that leads "towards the listening tree" becomes a metaphor for personal growth and self-discovery. The tree is personified as a sentient being that is "pleased to hear from me", suggesting a comforting and compassionate presence.

The second half of the lyrics delve deeper into emotional introspection. The line "If cold fingers reach deep into you, it's time to believe in what seems untrue" can be interpreted as a message of hope and resilience - even when things seem bleak, it's important to hold onto the belief that there is something better waiting for us. The repeated refrain of "don't waste more time or tears, unpack yourself, fold up your fears" encourages the listener to shed their emotional baggage and connect with the present moment, symbolized by the "springtime" referenced earlier in the song. Ultimately, the "listening tree" represents a place of solace where one can confront and overcome their inner demons.

yes, I have started listening to this album a week ago and I cannot stop. It's brilliant, I have to find out whether it is actually Tim singing as well...

+djpommeverte: I actually really like the singing in probably all tracks in the album :) For a long time I didn't even know that it's his vocals :)

+Hofstädter Krisztián I saw some people complain about the fact that he sings in quite every track of this album, but it brings such an atmosphere to the tracks, and it wouldn't be that great without the vocals. Especially for this one particularly. This is so unique, i really fell in love with this album, always in my car. I'm glad you finally discovered it, cause yes it's brilliant indeed. This guy is a genius, i'm jealous that you've seen him live! ;)

Same here, I saw Tim in Cambridge with his machines. But his album is very different to what he composed there... Sometimes it feels like listening to some buddhist literature :)

+Hofstädter Krisztián it is, seen the man perform live a couple of years back and it was one of the best shows ever. Made me buy his album.
