Almighty God
Tim Hughes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The rising sun that fills the sky
The starry host that lights the night
Reflecting Your glory

The mountain heights, forever stand
The rain that falls to soak the land
Respond to Your glory
Almighty God, in every way
You are above and beyond understanding
If we did not praise, the rocks would cry out
Glorious God, high above understanding

The vast expanse of earth and sea
Held by You in harmony
Speaks of Your glory

All You've made, since time began
Life itself; Your perfect plan
And it's all for Your glory

Almighty God, in every way
You are above and beyond understanding
If we did not praise, the rocks would cry out
Glorious God, high above understanding

Creation joins as one to sing
"What a glorious God"
So far above all earthly things

Almighty God, in every way
You are above and beyond understanding
If we did not praise, the rocks would cry out
Glorious God, high above understanding

Almighty God, in every way
You are above and beyond understanding

If we did not praise, the rocks would cry out
Glorious God, high above understanding

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tim Hughes's song Almighty God speak about the power and majesty of God that can be seen all around us in the world He created. The singer marvels at the rising sun that lights the sky and the stars that shine at night, both of which reflect the glory of God. The mountains that stand tall and the rain that falls to soak the land are also examples of God's glory. The song emphasizes God's omnipotence and His position as the ruler of everything that He has created. The singer acknowledges that God's ways are beyond human understanding, and if we didn't praise Him, even the rocks would cry out His glory.

The lyrics also express the idea that all of God's creation is meant to glorify Him. The vast expanse of earth and sea and all life that exists on it is part of God's perfect plan. The singer acknowledges that this is all for God's glory and in the chorus, he repeats the phrase 'Almighty God' to emphasize God's greatness and power. The song concludes with the idea that all of creation joins together to worship and sing praises to God, who is far above all earthly things.

One interesting fact about this song is that it was released in 2006 as part of Tim Hughes's album "Holding Nothing Back," which was nominated for a Dove Award in 2007. The song was also included in a compilation album "Worship Duets" in 2015, where it was sung as a duet with British singer-songwriter Matt Redman. Another interesting fact is that the song has been translated into several languages, including Spanish and Portuguese, and has been sung in churches around the world.

Worship is more than how a song sounds, its about devotion, adoration and reverence to the God you love. this song embodies these all so It doesnt matter if he sounds alike to others (Im pretty sure God doesn't mind);...The song ministers to me and many others here. To cut the long story short... this song DOES NOT suck :)
