If Only
Times Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Not today I can't give up
I'll try again and longer
Not today I won't give in
If only, only, only
I could be a little stronger
Even if it kills me I'll find no relief after I die
I'll be shackled to my killer in the afterlife
Or will I realize in the light of all those who have died purified
That the ropes he used to bind were never truly tied
Oh what a beautiful connection
Though I know I never reached perfection
And while correction never led to flying
All that mattered was that I died trying
I've been sliding, grinding, diving
If only, only, only
I'd hold on a little longer
I'll keep climbing, fighting, rising
If only, only, only
I could be a little stronger
I will never give up on the hope of being made whole
Even on the bleakest winter day I could find new growth
Inside it's "do or die" and other ungodly lies
Once was worthless now am purchased
Of this I can testify
Oh what a beautiful connection
Though I know I'll never reach perfection
And while correction has never led to flying
All that matters is that I die trying
I've been sliding, grinding, diving
If only, only, only
I'd hold on a little longer
I'll keep climbing, fighting, rising
If only, only, only
I could be a little stronger
The words "if only" only matter in mortality
Then comes the night where no labor can be performed
The words "if only" only matter in mortality
Then comes the night where no labor can be performed
The words "if only" only matter in mortality
Then comes the night where no labor can be performed
So rise
Not today I can't give up
I'll try again and longer
Not today I won't give in
If only, only, only
I could be a little stronger
I'll keep climbing
Not today I can't give up I'll try again and longer
Fighting, rising
Not today I won't give in
If only, only, only
I could be a little stronger
I'll keep climbing
Not today I can't give up I'll try again and longer
Fighting, rising
Not today I won't give in

If only, only, only
I could be a little stronger

My god. I'm 62 years of age and crying like a baby. Just came across this song by chance after more than 50+ years. My mother , who recently passed, was always playing this record at home and she idolised John Rowles voice . I would have been around 6 years of age at the time but listening to this song has brought back unbelievable memories of my wonderful and beautiful mother. The lyrics are simple but the message is so powerful. There's never enough time in ones life so please live your life to the full with your family, loved ones and friends .❤

I also cried when I heard this song again, and I'll be 71 next month. It brought back so many memories for me also. Sorry for the recent loss of your mum, I lost both my parents 27yrs ago. Just weeks apart from each other, you never forget but time is a little healer. Take care

@paulanderson8863  Your very welcome Paul, I'm almost 71 and much prefer the music of the 60's & 70's. It's better than the rubbish they call music these days. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year

The older you get the faster the time goes

@70tezskin

It certainly does.
Time is like life.
It takes ages to climb to the top of the hill in life when your young.
But after you reach the top, the way down is rapid and only gets faster .
Enjoy life. Enjoy the time you have it's so precious.
