The message of Christ's death and resurrection needs to permeate the listener's community

With Christ's death, burial, and resurrection
The central theme and ultimate purpose of Christ's death and resurrection

Christ's death and resurrection is
The overarching idea and main point of focus throughout the Old Testament scriptures

The main theme of the whole Old Testament
The central thread that ties together the entire Old Testament

God's plan of redemption is progressively done
God's process of rescuing and restoring humanity is carried out gradually over time

The Old Testament is about the death of a Son
The Old Testament foretells the coming death and sacrifice of God's Son

And a resurrection to come
The Old Testament also points to the promise of a future resurrection

But this is seen in several aspects of the text that are One:
The message of death and resurrection is present in different parts of scripture, but ultimately it is one cohesive theme

First in this verse I'm spitting, turn attention
The focus of this section is to highlight the importance of circumcision in understanding the message of death and resurrection

To death and resurrection in the theme of Circumcision
The act of circumcision symbolizes the themes of death and resurrection

Adam was God's human son in His image
Adam was created by God in His likeness

Commissioned to reproduce tons that are sinless
Adam and his descendants were charged with the task of producing offspring that were free from sin

Who love God with all their heart and their soul
These descendants of Adam were meant to be dedicated and passionate in their love for God

So His just Law always they'd guard and uphold
God's people were to follow His law and keep it justly

Adam was to pass on God's image through his offspring
Adam was meant to propagate God's likeness through his descendants

But since the Fall, his children are wicked and they all sin!
However, ever since the Fall, Adam's progeny have been sinful and unable to fully embody God's image

Now they reproduce a ghastly sinner!
Adam's descendants now reproduce sinful individuals

So God comes to Abraham a 2nd Adam figure
God interacts with Abraham in a way that mirrors the relationship between God and Adam

Blesses him 'to be fruitful' with 'Multiplication'
God blesses Abraham with fertility and numerous offspring

This promise to Abram
God's promise to Abraham

Is to resurrect all of the nations!
God's promise to Abraham includes the resurrection and salvation of people from every nation

And CIRCUMCISION is the SIGN OF THIS COVENANT
The act of circumcision is the outward sign of the covenant between God and Abraham

A picture of (1) blessing,
Circumcision represents a blessing on the offspring of Abraham

And a reminder of (2) punishment (a curse!):
Circumcision also serves as a reminder of the curse that comes for those who do not follow God's ways

DUAL SANCTIONS, its double meaning:
Circumcision has a two-fold significance

The blessing is the fallen-Adam-nature of his sons He's cleaning
Circumcision symbolically cleanses and purifies the sinful nature that is passed down from Adam to his descendants

Thus enforcing, them to cut their foreskin
Circumcision is a physical representation of the spiritual purification of one's heart

CLEANSING symbolized on the reproductive organ
The act of circumcision symbolizes the cleansing of one's heart and the reproduction of sinless descendants

To reproduce image bearers
The purpose of circumcision is to produce descendants that resemble God

Who love God, it's HIM they cherish
These sinless descendants are meant to love and cherish God

In covenant like in a marriage!
The relationship between God and His people is meant to mirror the relationship between a husband and wife in marriage

But CIRCUMCISION also has a curse within it
Circumcision comes with a curse in addition to its blessing

For 'cut off' 'CaRaT' (כּ רַָת) is the Hebrew verb that's written
The Hebrew word 'CaRaT' means to be cut off

Because just as Yahweh showed that IF HE BREAKS HIS PROMISE
God has shown that if He does not keep His promises

HE'LL BE CUT OFF like how when He slayed
God will be cut off from His people when He punishes them

The carcass
The remains of the animal sacrifice

Likewise any uncircumcised one in the nation,
In a similar way, those who are not circumcised

Not circumcised in heart, but they're faking
Those whose hearts have not been circumcised but pretend to follow God

Here's the judgment they're facing:
These individuals are facing the judgment of God

They're 'cut off' (כּ רַָת) from God, EXILED, for their covenant breaking ('CaRaT')!
They will be exiled and cut off from God due to their failure to follow His covenant

Every commandment—He did them, the Lamb—He was given
Jesus perfectly followed every commandment and was given as a sacrificial lamb

To be 'cut off out of the land of the living'
Jesus was removed from the realm of the living through His death on the cross

When He was destroyed for you
Jesus was destroyed in order to save humanity

He was bearing the covenant curse that
Jesus bore the curse of the covenant that was represented by circumcision

Circumcision pointed to (Gen. 17:14; Gal. 3:13)
Circumcision was a sign that pointed to the curse of the covenant

Paul calls the Cross 'the Circumcision of Christ!'
Paul referred to the crucifixion of Jesus as a symbolic circumcision

He buried the old, Adam order,
Jesus put to death the old order of Adam and sin

Then risen with might
Jesus rose again with great power and strength

As Life-Giving Spirit, He's the Giver of Life
Jesus gives life through His Holy Spirit

So 'we are the True Circumcision'
True circumcision is no longer a physical act, but a spiritual one

A part of His New Creation
Those who are in Christ are part of a new creation

His renewed Church that's in Him
The church is renewed and transformed by its relationship with Christ

Raised up by His grace, so we're able to obey
By God's grace, believers are empowered to obey His commands

And PUT OFF the old Adam slave
Believers must break free from their old, sinful nature

Who's in the grave
The old nature is dead and buried

Renewed in the Image of the Son,
Believers are continually transformed to reflect the likeness of Christ

Restored
Believers are fully restored in their relationship with God

With circumcised hearts now we can love the LORD!
Through spiritual circumcision, believers are able to love God with all of their heart and soul

We were headed for hell, we couldn't better our selves
Humanity was doomed for eternal separation from God and could not save itself

God's solution was Colossians 2:11 through 12
God's solution was found in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ

Christ 'PUT OFF the body of the flesh'
Jesus put an end to the sinful nature of humanity through His death

That's the Romans 6:6 'body of sin' in bondage to death
Sin results in death and separation from God

THE CROSS WAS THE INSTRUMENT
The cross was the means by which the sinful nature was overcome

To end sin's imprisonment
The crucifixion of Jesus put an end to the power of sin over humanity

Buried together, the Tomb we went IN WITH HIM
Through baptism, believers are united with Christ in His death and resurrection

So now Circumcision and Baptism
Spiritual circumcision is symbolized through the act of baptism

Point to Union with Christ who has Risen
Baptism signifies the union between the believer and the resurrected Christ

Instead of Circumcision, it's the Sacrament that's given
Physical circumcision is no longer necessary, but rather baptism is the sacrament given to believers

So go baptize your kids if you have children!
Baptism is a symbol of new life in Christ and should be practiced by believers, including their children.
