Losing
Tina Dickow Lyrics

Into the dark of your coffee cup
To cover up your footprints
How many times have I heard you say stay
Won't you let me tie you up?
With minor cords and smoke rings
Can anybody with truthful eyes
Careful confusion is a thin disguise
And I think you're losing it
I hear you've found someone to take the blame
Playmate, is it true?
She's fuel on your roaring fire
I hear she's nice but messed up just the same
Sweet kamikaze, dying proof
That down is this season's higher
Can anybody with truthful eyes
See anybody they recognize
Careful confusion is a thin disguise
And I think you're losing
It seems you're losing
I think you're losing it
Can anybody with truthful eyes
See anybody they recognize
Careful confusion is a thin disguise
And I think you're losing it
The lyrics of Tina Dickow's "Losing" paint a picture of a person who is struggling with their own deceit and self-destruction. The song begins with the question "How many lies have you told today?" which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The person is aware of their own dishonesty but continues to lie to themselves and others. The image of covering their footprints further highlights the idea of trying to conceal their actions.
The chorus repeats the line "Can anybody with truthful eyes see anybody they recognize?" suggesting that the person has changed so much that they are unrecognizable to those who know them. The phrase "careful confusion" implies that the person is making a concerted effort to conceal their true feelings and thoughts, but it is only a thin disguise.
The second verse introduces a third person who is being used as a scapegoat for the person's problems. The line "I hear you've found someone to take the blame" suggests that the person is unwilling to take responsibility for their actions and is willing to throw someone else under the bus to avoid facing the consequences. The final line "Sweet kamikaze, dying proof That down is this season's higher" suggests that the person is attracted to self-destructive behavior and is using this as a way to cope.
Overall, the song addresses themes of deception, self-destruction, and the consequences of these actions.
