Turner began her career with Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm in 1957. Under the name Little Ann, she appeared on her first record, "Boxtop", in 1958. In 1960, she debuted as Tina Turner with the hit duet single "A Fool in Love". The duo Ike & Tina Turner became "one of the most formidable live acts in history". They released hits such as "It's Gonna Work Out Fine", "River Deep – Mountain High", "Proud Mary", and "Nutbush City Limits" before disbanding in 1976.
In the 1980s, Turner launched "one of the greatest comebacks in music history". Her 1984 multi-platinum album Private Dancer contained the hit song "What's Love Got to Do with It", which won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and became her first and only number one song on the Billboard Hot 100. At age 44, she was the oldest female solo artist to top the Hot 100. Her chart success continued with "Better Be Good to Me", "Private Dancer", "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)", "Typical Male", "The Best", "I Don't Wanna Fight", and "GoldenEye". During her Break Every Rule World Tour in 1988, she set a then-Guinness World Record for the largest paying audience (180,000) for a solo performer.
Turner also acted in the films Tommy (1975), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), and Last Action Hero (1993). In 1993, What's Love Got to Do with It, a biographical film adapted from her autobiography I, Tina: My Life Story, was released. In 2009, Turner retired after completing her Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour, which is the 15th highest-grossing tour of the 2000s. In 2018, she became the subject of the jukebox musical Tina.
Having sold over 100 million records worldwide, Turner became one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. She received 12 Grammy Awards, which include eight competitive awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was the first black artist, and first woman, to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone ranked her among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Turner has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the St. Louis Walk of Fame. She was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Ike Turner in 1991 and as a solo artist in 2021. She was a 2005 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and Women of the Year award.
In 2020, she came out of retirement to collaborate with Norwegian producer Kygo on a remix of "What's Love Got to Do with It". With this release, she became the first artist to have a top 40 hit in seven consecutive decades in the UK.

Missing You
Tina Turner Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I'm still standing here, and you're miles away
And I'm wondering why you left
And there's a storm that's raging
Through my frozen heart tonight
I hear your name in certain circles
And it always makes me smile
I spend my time thinking about you
And there's a heart that's breaking
Down this long distance line tonight
I ain't missing you at all (missing you)
Since you've been gone away (missing you)
I ain't missing you (missing you)
No matter what I might say (missing you)
There's a message in the wire
And I'm sending the signal tonight
You don't know how desperate I've become
And it looks like I'm losing this fight
In your world I have no meaning
Though I'm trying hard to understand
And it's my heart that's breaking
Down this long distance line tonight
I ain't missing you at all (missing you)
Since you've been gone away (missing you)
I ain't missing you (missing you)
No matter what my friends say (missing you)
And there's a message that I'm sending out
Via telegraph to your soul
And if I can't breach this distance
Stop this heartbreak overload
I ain't missing you at all (missing you)
Since you've been gone away (missing you)
I ain't missing you (missing you)
No matter what my friends say (missing you)
I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
I can't lie to myself
And there's a storm that's raging
Through my frozen heart tonight
I ain't missing you at all
I ain't missing you
Missing you
I ain't missing you, oh no
I ain't missing you, I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you, I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you, I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
Every time I think of you, I always catch my breath
The song "Missing You" by Tina Turner is an emotional ballad about a person who is struggling to cope with a long-distance relationship. The lyrics express the pain and loneliness felt by the singer every time they think of the person they love who is miles away. The song begins by describing how the singer catches their breath every time they think of their loved one. They are still standing here, but the person they love is miles away, and they wonder why they left.
The chorus of the song is a declaration by the singer that they are not missing their loved one, even though they clearly are. They are trying to convince themselves that they are not missing their loved one, but it is evident from the lyrics that they are struggling to come to terms with their feelings.
The second verse of the song expresses the extent of the singer's desperation to communicate with their loved one. They hear their name in certain circles, spend their time thinking about them, and are almost driven wild by this intense longing. Despite their efforts to reach out via a telegraph message, they cannot seem to bridge the distance between them, and the heartbreak is taking its toll.
Overall, "Missing You" is a beautifully written and performed song that truly captures the heartache of a long-distance relationship. It speaks to the many people who have had to endure the pain of being separated from the ones they love.
