Rundgren is well known among his fans as being an electronic music revolutionary. His skilled production techniques, matched by his belief that he has ability to play just about any instrument at a mastery level, has allowed him to release some of the most honest and personal music of his time. Many of his solo albums, including Something/Anything?]' were made completely by himself. That is, he played all the instruments, sang all the vocals, did all of the recording, editing, mixing, and mastering.

Attitude
Todd Rundgren Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But talk, talk, talk is all you can do
You want to know how to play a game of show and tell
But you're just not getting off on yourself
When you got to get a message through
It's not what you do
It's your attitude
And there is nothing stopping you
It's your attitude
You got to get off on yourself
And give them that attitude
You got shrink wrap rap and a prefab smile
Too much substance, not enough style
You got your new age voodoo, but that won't help
'cause you're just not getting off on yourself
When you got to get a message through
It's not what you do
It's your attitude
And there is nothing stopping you
It's not what you do
It's your attitude
So you got to get off on yourself
And give it the attitude
Now that you're ok and I'm ok
Decide to have it out or to get away
If I didn't believe every word I say
I wouldn't be the man that I am today
It ain't no secret, it don't take money
So give it to yourself, in a way it's funny
Just try to do right, and it comes right through
Don't care about the don'ts and do's
If you want to get a message through
It's not what you do
It's your attitude
And there is nothing stopping you
It's not what you do
It's your attitude
You got to get off on yourself, stay up on yourself
Get yourself an attitude
It's the way you walk and the way you talk
And the way you do everything you do
You got the attitude
The lyrics to Todd Rundgren's "Attitude" seem to suggest that in order to effectively communicate with others and get a message across, it's not just what you do or say, but your attitude that can make all the difference. The song seems to be critical of people who have a lot of talk but lack substance or style, or who rely too much on trendy new age concepts without truly believing in them. Rundgren sings that one has to "get off on yourself" and have confidence in their own unique attitude in order to truly connect with others and make a difference.
Rundgren also touches on themes of self-belief and self-acceptance, encouraging listeners to be true to themselves and not worry about others' perceptions or opinions. He sings that it "don't take money" to have the right attitude, and suggests that trying to do right and being genuine in one's intentions will naturally lead to success in communication and connection with others.
Overall, "Attitude" seems to be a song about the importance of being genuine, confident, and true to oneself in order to effectively communicate and connect with others.
