Can look into the future, so they say
But I am so afraid of fortune tellers
To know the truth might cast my world away
Now, just suppose I called upon a gypsy
To find you're gonna break my heart some day
So, darlin', I'm confessin', not knowin' is a blessin'
A gypsy with a crystal ball to gaze in
Can look into the future, so they say
But I am so afraid of fortune tellers
To know the truth might cast my world away
Now, just suppose I called upon a gypsy
To find you're gonna break my heart some day
So, darlin', I'm confessin', not knowin' is a blessin'
So you can keep me guessin', come what may
Darling, come what may
The lyrics of Tony Brent's song "Come What May" refer to the fear of knowing the truth about one's future in a relationship. The singer talks about the common belief that gypsies with crystal balls have the power to see the future. However, he is afraid of knowing what the future holds because it might destroy his world. He would rather not know if his heart will be broken eventually by his partner someday.
The singer muses on the possibility of consulting a gypsy to find out if his partner will break his heart. But he realizes that not knowing the truth is sometimes better than finding it. He refers to the uncertainty as a "blessing" because it allows him to keep guessing what the future may hold.
Overall, the lyrics of "Come What May" express the human tendency to avoid knowing the truth out of fear of what it might bring. It highlights the importance of uncertainty and how some people think it is better to live with the unknown than to have a stark reality laid out before them.
