For those wondering, the third farm would make 56,700 wheat, or 6,300 hay bales. Assuming that a hay bale is actually a bushel of wheat (because we don't eat hay bales, or do we?), and knowing that one bushel of wheat makes 90 1lb loaves of bread, we would have 567,000 loaves or 567,000 pounds of bread. If 1 loaf is 1 meal then we could feed 189,000 people for a day or, in Mumbos case, one person for 519 years. If the average life expectancy is 75 years for both genders, then we could feed roughly 7 people for life. Now to make this in real life.....

Arguably, none of the builds were all that useful past the basic model...because at a certain point it'll just take too long to plant them to be worth a damn.

Maybe you could time each farm so that the wheat will have mostly flowed out of the farm. Then the lag will be kind of mitigated. Also, in order for this to be really efficient, you need auto crafting and planting.
Another thing. You should use structure blocks for this!

You could build this within a village and have all the modules on the same height level placed side by side. If you place them within the radius of the Farmer's plantable area they will reseed it for you.

if you put more repeaters between each tower/farm, it would allow the whole system to run more smoothly. Since most of the first tower would be done before starting the next one, there would be far less entities hover the hoppers. less entities = less lag.

OSharraps I'm pretty sure that most of the lag was coming from the flowing water since once the water was activated it was a slideshow and when it dissipated the lag somewhat went away

OSharraps Remember when they first added XP to minecraft, back before item entity stacking? We learned really fast that if you died with over about 30 levels, it would grind your computer (and server) to a halt when all your XP popped out of your body. We implemented "suicide pits" full of lava on our creative server, so if you got to high a level, you would hop in and destroy your xp orbs. item entity stacking fixed most of that though, along with XP going away when you die.

Hey Mumbo, I just had a thought to improve your design, why not put dispensers one block above the the dirt and time it so that once the water has washed away it replants them, and what you could do is hook up a filter so the the wheat goes to the chest and the seeds are replanted. Hope this helps.

The only problem with farms like this is the fact that you need to replant everything. I know you could use 1.8 villager bread farms, but they're somewhat slow.
You know, a good idea for a future update is to make it so that when dispensers shoot out seeds on top of soil, the seeds are planted. That way, we can replant all of the seeds with the push of a button, making the wheat farms so much more efficient.

You could just cut down the dirt by 1 block and have the wheat and seeds continually flow until they reach the hopper, helping with the hopper back up problem and making it more resource friendly, you know.

It is not automated if you have to plant the seeds.
How about you sit on a minecart afk but with right mouse button (or a remapped key) pressed down.
Minecart moves around a large farm so plenty of wheat is planted. And after about the time it takes wheat to grow there's timed water harvest and minecart goes for a next round.

that would be very awsome if you can put a villager on each field and have about a 30sec to 1 minute delay between each feald when it is harvested. the farmer should be ok when water flows. also if needed find a way to evenly redistribute seeds after sorting.

Why would you ever need something like this!? Just a little tiny manual farm is more than enough for the most part. Maybe a small autofarm, but nothing too massive.

How to make it not lag your PC:
Delay each farm by just a second longer than it takes for one farm to completely reset. It will take more time for the farm to work, but it won't destroy PC's.

Use ender chest, you could transport it to another chest that would have a hopper and will go to a chest

Actually if you just put the redstone contraptions on one side and by using the flow mechanism of the water you could only use one contraption and the farm design would be zig zag form so the water can cover all of the place, is a new design tho haha, just a suggestion

When you said your computer shed a little tear at the sight of this thing, I laughed. Reminds me of a giant cactus farm that killed my computer on a server one time. I got near it enough for the particles to appear and I ended up having to reboot my system. lol

Hey check out my automatic wheat farm from a couple years ago. The design is still relevant and is more efficient redstone and block-wise than yours. Clearly too small isn't oriented towards efficiency but I think you might like the design!

loved the video! but i feel obligated to say that you probably don't need that many pistons per cell. if you connected rows of slime blocks as water dams instead (having the end of each row capped off with an iron block or something, so the sets of slime blocks don't stick to each other) you could cut each cell down to exactly 2 pistons.

guess it doesn't matter though, since it's creative mode.

If you're building that big, you need to add a system to regulate how quickly the farms are harvested. For example, if any of the hoppers have more than 22 items, the next farm will wait to be harvested, and the one after that will wait until A.) Farm #2 has begun harvesting, and B.) None of the hoppers have more than 22 items. This slows the total harvest time dramatically, but saves your computer's peace of... Er... "Mind". Even if you do that though, I personally challenge you to consume bread and hay bales faster that it's putting them out all the way until it's done.

I'd recommend setting your allowed RAM to unlimited. I've heard it has a small impact on performance over setting it to 16GB (I know that's how much you have)
