Featuring Youth
Torun Eriksen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's wandering out to consequences
Hacking into rules and fences
Only to discover their version of the truth
They only see what we've become
But do we even know our way back home
Featuring youth
No science-fiction can prepare you for
The ways these feet will walk
Featuring youth
Prejudgments can be made
No words be served by us
That these minds won't taste of their own
Looking into words and phrases
We don't understand
Its new communicating takes
Samples from what youth create
Messages are sent but we always get them wrong
To get a clue you need to listen
More than once to a new song
Featuring youth
No movie can compare
No science-fiction can prepare you for
The ways these feet will walk
Featuring youth
Prejudgments can be made
No words be served by us
That these minds won't taste of their own
Saying they
They can't hear a word you're saying
Can't know that you're praying for them to be strong
So why don't you just speak out loud
And let them know they have nothing to prove
To make you proud
Featuring youth
No movie can compare
No science-fiction can prepare you for
The ways these feet will walk
Featuring youth
Prejudgments can be made
No words be served by us
That these minds won't taste of their own
The song "Featuring Youth" by Torun Eriksen discusses the challenges of understanding the younger generation and their unique ways of communication and perspective. The lyrics suggest that it is difficult to comprehend the "mechanism bigger than ourselves" that surrounds us, and that we often miss the mark in our attempts to comprehend the messages that are being conveyed by today's youth. The song emphasizes the importance of listening closely and repeatedly to the messages being sent by this generation, in order to truly understand and appreciate the value of their unique perspective and creativity.
The phrase "Featuring Youth" carries with it a double meaning: on one hand, it suggests a collaboration or partnership between youth and adults; on the other hand, it implies a starring role or spotlight for the younger generation. The song seems to suggest that both interpretations are valid and important, and that it is critical for adults to recognize the value and power of youth voices and ideas.
Overall, "Featuring Youth" is a powerful and insightful commentary on the challenges of intergenerational understanding, as well as the potential for collaboration and mutual respect.
