The band has performed at many national festivals including Coachella, Stagecoach, Summerfest, Bumbershoot, and Pickathon. In 2011, they performed at several large folk festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival and 2011 ROMP roots and branches. They are scheduled to play the Sasquatch Festival, Bonnaroo, All Good Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Lollapalooza in 2012.
2014 saw the release of Trampled by Turtles's seventh studio album, Wild Animals, on July 15th. The band tapped Alan Sparhawk, from the band Low, to produce Wild Animals. Sparhawk's influence is evident in the band's seemingly more alternative, high lonesome sound. The night of Wild Animals' release, TBT made their second appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. On August 16th, Trampled by Turtles headlined a sold out show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO.

Hollow
Trampled By Turtles Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That the birds outside, they never sing for us
Winter time is slow, and the pain she'll be crying
My blood runs cold, they never sing for us
Hollow, hollow I'm empty
Guess we'll go outside, and face the slaughter
Shortly you'll be here, my little darling
All the birds can crow, and the winter doesn't matter
Hollow, hollow I'm empty
In Trampled by Turtles' song "Hollow," the lyrics paint a bleak picture of the world dying and how the music of the earth seems to have stopped. The opening lines suggest that the characters in the song were unaware that the world was dying until it was too late. The image of the birds outside that never sing for them is a poignant one, as it suggests that the beauty and music of nature have disappeared. The reference to winter heightens the feeling of isolation and despair, and the line "my blood runs cold" intensifies this sense of helplessness.
As the song progresses, there is a sense that the characters in the song are resigned to their fate. They know that they must face the "slaughte"r of a "dead end life" in a world that is "getting smaller." However, the presence of a "little darling" who is about to arrive offers a glimmer of hope. The final lines of the song suggest that the beauty of the birdsong and the harshness of winter are not important when you have someone to love.
Overall, "Hollow" is a song that explores the fragility of life and the aching desire for love and hope in a world that seems to be falling apart.
