The band has performed at many national festivals including Coachella, Stagecoach, Summerfest, Bumbershoot, and Pickathon. In 2011, they performed at several large folk festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival and 2011 ROMP roots and branches. They are scheduled to play the Sasquatch Festival, Bonnaroo, All Good Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Lollapalooza in 2012.
2014 saw the release of Trampled by Turtles's seventh studio album, Wild Animals, on July 15th. The band tapped Alan Sparhawk, from the band Low, to produce Wild Animals. Sparhawk's influence is evident in the band's seemingly more alternative, high lonesome sound. The night of Wild Animals' release, TBT made their second appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. On August 16th, Trampled by Turtles headlined a sold out show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO.

The One To Save
Trampled By Turtles Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That I walked this world no more
And all my troubles would pass away
As I walked through Heaven's door
As long as I can remember now
Been out here on my own
Oh how I wish I was in your arms
And put me in the water
And put me in my grave
But no matter what you want from me
I ain't the one to save
It's lonely in a border town
Where no one knows your name
I'd spin this world right into the ground
'Til only life remains
When doors are shut for you my dear
You simply break them down
But I just sat there biding my time
Until the keys just came around
And put me in the water
And put me in my grave
But no matter what you want from me
I ain't the one to save
There's holy ghosts and blinded eyes
They're fighting for my soul
I ain't the man that you thought you knew
I ain't that man no more
Remember when we owned it all
Those days went by so slow
But all those times are past and gone
And I've got nowhere to go
And put me in the water
And put me in my grave
But no matter what you want from me
I ain't the one to save
And put me in the water
And put me in my grave
But no matter what you want from me
I ain't the one to save
But no matter what you want from me
I ain't the one to save
Trampled by Turtles’ “The One to Save” is a poignant and emotional song about a man’s struggles with his own demons and the difficulties of life. The lyrics express a deep sense of weariness and despair, and a longing for escape from the pain and hardships of the world. The first verse talks about the desire for death, imagining that walking through the gate of Heaven would provide relief from all the struggles of life. The chorus then shifts to a rejection of the idea of being saved, stating that even though the singer may want to escape from his own pain, he cannot be what someone else needs to be saved.
The rest of the song explores the singer's feelings of loneliness and isolation in a border town where no one knows his name. He longs for the comfort of someone’s embrace, but feels lost and uncertain. The second verse references the struggle of fighting for one's place in the world and facing closed doors. The singer acknowledges that others may fight by breaking down doors, but they cannot bring themselves to do so.
The third verse hints at the singer’s internal conflict, referencing holy ghosts and blinded eyes fighting for his soul, causing him to feel as though he isn't the same man he once was. The lyrics suggest that the singer has been through a lot and may have hurt others along the way. The song concludes with the repetition of the chorus, emphasizing that the singer cannot be someone else's savior, no matter what they may want from him.
