The band has performed at many national festivals including Coachella, Stagecoach, Summerfest, Bumbershoot, and Pickathon. In 2011, they performed at several large folk festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival and 2011 ROMP roots and branches. They are scheduled to play the Sasquatch Festival, Bonnaroo, All Good Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Lollapalooza in 2012.
2014 saw the release of Trampled by Turtles's seventh studio album, Wild Animals, on July 15th. The band tapped Alan Sparhawk, from the band Low, to produce Wild Animals. Sparhawk's influence is evident in the band's seemingly more alternative, high lonesome sound. The night of Wild Animals' release, TBT made their second appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. On August 16th, Trampled by Turtles headlined a sold out show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO.

Western World
Trampled By Turtles Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don't mind when things unravel in the western world
A slave to the light in the cool dark shadow
I passed my time in the bracket shallow of the western world
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
We were in love in a wild desert memory
Now why does love get broken and heavy in the western world
All you need to survive is to learn how to fake it in the western world
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
We are leaving, we are gone
We slept outside in a peaceful surrender
The secret lies, we tried to remember the western world
All the bad days, with blurry borders
We changed our clothes in the hidden corners of the western world
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
We are leaving, we are gone
The song "Western World" by Trampled by Turtles talks about the conflict between the beauty and relentlessness of nature and the harshness of society. The first verse talks about being a slave to nature, but not minding when things unravel because they do so in the Western World. The Western World here probably refers to the world of human societies and its exploitation of nature. The next verse seems to talk about the struggle to hold on to love in this world - then why does it get broken and heavy? The past is alive and can't be shaken off, hence we all need to learn how to fake it in this world of relationships.
In the final verse, the band talks about sleeping outside, surrendering to nature’s peacefulness, and trying to remember the Western World, which seems to suggest that they are already on the move, leaving it behind. The Western World here might refer to the modern, mechanized world where one can exist but not live in peace. Overall, the lyrics seem to convey the idea of the harshness of the Western World and the desire to escape it, a theme that recurs in many of Trampled by Turtles’ songs.
