The band has performed at many national festivals including Coachella, Stagecoach, Summerfest, Bumbershoot, and Pickathon. In 2011, they performed at several large folk festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival and 2011 ROMP roots and branches. They are scheduled to play the Sasquatch Festival, Bonnaroo, All Good Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Lollapalooza in 2012.
2014 saw the release of Trampled by Turtles's seventh studio album, Wild Animals, on July 15th. The band tapped Alan Sparhawk, from the band Low, to produce Wild Animals. Sparhawk's influence is evident in the band's seemingly more alternative, high lonesome sound. The night of Wild Animals' release, TBT made their second appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. On August 16th, Trampled by Turtles headlined a sold out show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO.

Higher Calling
Trampled by Turtles Lyrics

Sure I said I would meet her there
There's no price put on my head tonight
And all I got is all you left me
Nothing here is worth a dime
Still seems better not to come around
She called my name
Way up high in the air
And if I hear from that girl on the mountain
Know I'll meet her there
It's time like this I still remember
Fill my day and my lonely nights
Where the blue sky meets the cold hard ground
The door's broke down be calm and hurry
You'll never bring me back alive
There's no invitation left for me
She called my name
She called my name
Way up high in the air
And if I hear from that girl on the mountain
Know I'll meet her there
I tell you that I always love her
Sure I say I'll meet you there
Don't look for me when I'm gone
And all I got is all you left me
Nothing here is worth a dime
Still seems better not to come around
She called my name
She called my name
Way up high in the air
And if I hear from that girl on the mountain
Know I'll meet her there
Yea you know I'll meet here there
The song "Higher Calling" by Trampled by Turtles is a reflective piece on the sacrifices that need to be made for love. The opening verse expresses the singer's commitment to love, promising to always love her and meet her where she is. The second verse portrays a sense of loss, depicting the singer as having nothing left of the relationship save for the memories. Despite this, the singer feels as though it is better not to dwell on the relationship and instead keep it in the past. The chorus, where the girl on the mountain is calling out the singer, creates a sense of longing and the possibility of reconciliation between the two.
The third verse contrasts the previous one, focusing on the memories that still hold meaning for the singer. The last verse, however, speaks to the finality of the relationship, suggesting that the singer is gone for good and that his partner should not look for him. The song concludes on a somber note, with the singer recognizing that the past cannot be undone, but still holding onto the hope of reuniting with the girl on the mountain.
Overall, "Higher Calling" is a melancholic and introspective song that captures the complexities of love and its sacrifices.
