Victim
Trapt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let me play
I've been dying to let you win
It's all I wanna be
So won't you take if from me
I wonder
But the less I get the more I give
It's all I wanna be
So won't you take if from me

I want your eyes
I want your eyes on me
I want your eyes
I want your eyes on me
I want your eyes
I want your eyes to see
I want someone to notice me

I wanna be the only victim
I wanna be the only victim

No regrets, even if it's all I get
It's all I wanna be
So won't you take it from me
It still hurts
It's never easy to forget
Do I wanna be
What you never asked me

I want your eyes
I want your eyes on me
I want your eyes
I want your eyes on me
I want your eyes
I want your eyes to see
I want you to notice me

I wanna be the only victim
I wanna be the only victim

I'm right here
I'm right here

I'm right here [Repeat: x7]

So come and get me!

So come and get me!

I wanna be the only victim [Repeat: x4]

Overall Meaning

In Trapt's song Victim, the singer expresses their desire to be noticed and seen by someone they admire. The chorus "I want your eyes on me, I want someone to notice me" describes this longing. The use of the word "victim" in the title and throughout the song suggests that the singer feels powerless in this situation, as if they are at the mercy of the person they are trying to impress. This is reinforced in the repeated line "I wanna be the only victim."

The verses of the song contain some contradictory statements. The first verse begins with the singer saying "Let me play, I've been dying to let you win." This could be interpreted as the singer wanting to impress the person they admire by allowing them to "win" or be in control. However, the singer then says "But the less I get the more I give," which suggests that they are already giving too much without receiving anything in return. The second verse continues with the theme of sacrifice, as the singer says "No regrets, even if it's all I get." The final lines of the song, "So come and get me!" further emphasize the singer's eagerness to please and be noticed.

Overall, the lyrics of Victim convey a sense of desperation and longing. The singer is willing to put themselves in a vulnerable position in order to be seen and appreciated by the person they admire. However, the repeated use of the word "victim" suggests that this desire may not be healthy or sustainable.

Guys I think in light of the newer drama shooting off lately this song makes sense

He isn't saying "I don't want to be your new victim"
He's saying "I want to be"
Not from HIS perspective
He's mocking people who are calling out abuse and saying they've been wrong

All his recent drama has been about people having "victim complexes"

And this entire song, when cast in the light of him mocking those people... Makes incredible sense.

Mocking them for speaking up, calling them attention seeking, saying they're just whiny and want to be noticed

Nowhere does anything indicate this is really about him. It could be interpreted as a character. And generally speaking, victim is a word used by him with a negative connotation surrounding the concept of abusing such attention

This song has been a favorite of mine forever but I'm starting to think perhaps I've been misled by him. I feel like he's fucking with us

To anyone who is curious the lyrics are correct, Chris does in fact say, " I want to be your new victim". He sings it the same way in the studio and in concert. He does not say, " I don't want to be your new victim." As numerous people seem to think, it is in correct. The idea behind the song is that he wants this person in his life and he knows how poorly he will be treated but he wants them still, and he backs that up by saying that he wants their eyes on him. He wants whatever it will cost him to have that person in his life, and he pleads for their attention because he feels he is not noticed by them enough.
