The band released their debut album, Good Feeling (1997), to moderate success where it debuted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart and was later awarded a silver certification from the BPI in January 2000. The band gained greater success with their second album, The Man Who (1999), which spent nine weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, totalling 134 weeks in the top 100 of the chart. In 2003, The Man Who was certified 9× platinum by the BPI, representing sales of over 2.68 million in the UK alone. Following this success, the band released their third effort, The Invisible Band (2001) album. The Invisible Band went on to match the success found with their previous album, where it debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and spent a total of four weeks at the top spot, fifteen weeks in the top ten, and a total of fifty-five weeks in the top 100 chart, as well as peaking at thirty-nine on the US Billboard 200 album chart, spending a duration of seven weeks in the Billboard 200 chart. A year following the release of The Invisible Band, the BPI awarded Travis with a 4× platinum certification for the album.
In recent years, the band's discography has included studio albums 12 Memories (2003), The Boy with No Name (2007), Ode to J. Smith (2008), Where You Stand (2013), Everything at Once (2016) and 10 Songs (2020). In 2004, the band released their first greatest hits album, Singles, which spent nineteen weeks in the top 100 of the UK albums chart. Travis have twice been awarded best band at the BRIT Awards and were awarded the NME Artist of the Year award at their 2000 ceremony, and in 2016 were honoured at the Scottish Music Awards for their outstanding contribution to music. The band are widely said by the media to have paved the way for other bands such as Keane and Coldplay to go on to achieve worldwide success throughout the 2000s, particularly with the success of The Man Who.
Craft Recordings celebrated the 20th anniversary of Travis' breakthrough year with two simultaneous releases: Live at Glastonbury '99, plus expanded editions of The Man Who – both of which were released on 21 June 2019.

Travis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Feel real warm inside
I'm convinced that I will never let anybody
Else live inside this heart of mine
In this heart of mine
She tore right through me
Left hand prints where I bled
Can't stop the voices in my head
So paint me as the bad guy
Paint me as the bad guy
Like my bad, my bad, my bad, my bad
In the opening lines of Travis's song "Introduction," the lyrics express a sense of numbness and emotional detachment. The singer reflects on forgetting what it feels like to experience genuine warmth and connection from within. This could indicate a state of emotional shutdown or perhaps a past trauma that has left them feeling disconnected from their own emotions. The lyrical repetition of feeling cold inside suggests a deep-seated loneliness or a guarded heart that is reluctant to let others in.
The lyrics further delve into the singer's conviction that they are unwilling to allow anyone else to enter and occupy the emotional space within their heart. This refusal to let others in could stem from a fear of getting hurt or a reluctance to be vulnerable. The mention of someone leaving a mark on them by tearing through their defenses and causing them to bleed hints at a past betrayal or emotional wound that still lingers. The references to voices in the singer's head imply inner turmoil and conflicting thoughts, possibly stemming from the aftermath of the hurt they experienced.
The singer's acknowledgment of being left out to dry suggests a feeling of abandonment or betrayal by someone they trusted. Despite this perceived betrayal, they seem resigned to accept it, as indicated by the phrase "I guess that's alright." The repetition of the line "paint me as the bad guy" reveals a sense of self-blame or feeling misunderstood by others. The singer seems to be aware of the negative perception others have of them, and they almost seem to embrace this portrayal, perhaps as a shield against further pain or as a form of self-preservation.
In the concluding lines of the lyrics, the singer takes ownership of being perceived as the "bad guy," repeating the phrase multiple times. This repetition could indicate a resignation to a self-fulfilling prophecy or a feeling of being trapped in a role they did not ask for. The refrain of "my bad" at the end could be a resigned admission of fault or a dismissal of external judgments, asserting a sense of self-awareness and acceptance of their perceived role. Overall, the lyrics of "Introduction" paint a picture of emotional detachment, past hurts, self-blame, and a struggle with inner demons, encapsulating a complex and introspective narrative.
