Following on from ‘Kissing In The Wind’ released the previous December, the song is the second single to be taken from the bands album ‘10 Songs’ released Released October 2020.
While the album was finished just before the worldwide lockdown for the Covid-19 pandemic, the video had yet to be filmed. Lead singer Fran Healy, who had just returned to his home in Los Angeles, decided to shelve his original plans for the video and instead spent his time in self isolation animating the video by hand, working 17 hour non stop shifts, before being joined by his 14 year old song Clay to help finished the video with some drone based, socially distanced filming.
A Ghost

You pulled me out
(You pulled me out)
A lifeline sent to bring me back to life
You pulled me out
(You pulled me out)
It all changed when you reached out
Ghostly words that felt so familiar
You brought me back to life
You're the one
Who I needed
If only I'd known
So much sooner
You're the one
I should have seen it
Only you could
Bring me back to life
(Blegh)
All the pain and torment that I went through
You pulled me out
(You pulled me out)
My saving Grace amongst a sea of issues
You pulled me out
(You pulled me out)
It all changed when you reached out
Ghostly words that felt so familiar
That gentle glow changed everything
You brought me back to life
You're the one
Who I needed
You're the one
I should have seen it
You're the one
Who I needed
If only I'd known
So much sooner
You're the one
I should have seen it
Only you could
Bring me back to life
You
You're the one
Who I needed
You're the one
I should have seen it
Travis’s "A Ghost" is a reflective song about facing your past and coming to terms with it. The chorus of the song describes the haunting feeling of seeing a ghost in the mirror, a metaphor for being confronted with your memories and past mistakes. The first verse of the song describes the process of trying to move on from a situation and the struggle to articulate one’s feelings. The second verse delves more into the theme of the past, specifically in the context of how past relationships shape and mold us. The idea of being carried away and broken down by these relationships, and then being buried and forgotten, is a poignant one.
Overall, the song seems to be urging the listener to take control of their life and to live it to the fullest, instead of running away from the past or hiding under their pillow. The lyrics are particularly powerful because they don't offer any easy answers or quick-fix solutions for the struggles that the singer is grappling with.
Line by Line Meaning
Line by line we drew it up
We carefully planned everything, step by step
Had our fill and threw it up
After indulging, we got rid of what we consumed
Wrote the will and tore it up
We documented what we want and then destroyed it
I can't even say why
I do not understand the reason
All my past is shoring up
My history is accumulating and catching up with me
Beating on my door won't stop
The negative effects of my past continue to haunt me
Couldn't lie so I made it up
I couldn't say the truth, so I invented a story
And I can't even say why
I am still unsure about the reason behind it all
And I wonder as I walk away
As I leave, I reflect and ponder
Did I ever love it all the way
Did I ever commit fully to something I claimed to love
Did I open up my heart and say it like I mean it
Did I express my true feelings with sincerity
From the end right to the start
From the conclusion to the beginning
From seeing to believing
From observing to accepting
Oh but I saw a ghost
I had a spooky encounter
In the mirror coming near
I saw a reflection approaching
A little close for comfort tonight
It made me uneasy
He said
The apparition spoke
"It's easier to be alive
Being present and experiencing life is simpler
Than hide under your pillow
Rather than avoiding life
While your life is passing you by"
As your existence rapidly slips away
One by one they carry us
We are transported away, one by one
Break our hearts and marry us
Inflicting emotional pain then committing to us
Dig us up then bury us
After unearthing us, we are interred again
I wish I could say why
I desire to provide an explanation
That I don't even know why
However, I'm unaware of the reason myself
So live your life
Live fully and experience life
Don't waste your time
Do not squander your valuable time
Ooh I saw a ghost
Repeating a previous statement
Ooh he said it's easier to be alive
Repeating a previous statement
Ooh
Exclamation of emotion

Most underrated band in the world. I hate it when I search Travis on Google/Spotify but Travis friggin’ Scott comes up first. What kind of a world is this?!

@jhoncs3423
I agree with you, i still don't know who the hell is travis scott, and i don't care, Travis has been a part of my life for a long time, and I love them, even when searching for them is a little bit difficult
@tunji6607
Juan CS yes same as me. I’m now 33, been a Travis fan since The Man Who which was when I discovered Travis. Travis haven’t changed their style which makes me appreciate them more because they didn’t take the mainstream route the way Coldplay did
@AcervoFMTV
hey travis scott is good too in his own way and he has a more popular sound, but i like both
@maha_13
