(2) Denmark-based Anders Trentemøller made his debut in 1997, DJ'ing the local club circuit and occasionally performing live. After a self-imposed hiatus spanning several years, he returned with his own productions, which quickly grabbed the ear of the then red-hot Naked Music house music label. His debut EP was well received and won praise from DJs in all electronic music genres. This led to a series of 12" singles on such labels as Audiomatique and Tic Tac Toe before Trentemøller found a home on Germany's esteemed Poker Flat, where he released a series of critically acclaimed singles. His ambitious, moody double-disc album The Last Resort was released in 2006 on Poker Flat. Into the Great Wide Yonder, issued on Trentemøller's In My Room label, followed four years later and was even more removed from the dancefloor. This move toward the midtempo continued with 2013's Lost, a song-oriented effort that featured guest appearances from Jana Hunter, Marie Fisker, and the indie rock group Low. A remixed version of the album, Lost Reworks, appeared in 2014. ~ Rob Theakston, Rovi
Blue Hotel
Trentemøller Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Blue Hotel, life don't work out my way.
Blue Hotel, on a lonely highway,
Blue Hotel, life don't work out my way.
I wait alone each lonely night.
Blue Hotel...
Blue Hotel...
Blue Hotel, every room is lonely,
Blue Hotel, I was waiting only.
The night is like her lonely dream.
Blue Hotel...
Blue Hotel...
Blue Hotel, on a lonely highway,
Blue Hotel, life don't work out my way.
I wait alone each lonely night.
Blue Hotel...
Blue Hotel...
The lyrics of the song, "Blue Hotel" by Trentemøller, express a feeling of loneliness and isolation that often accompanies a difficult time in life. The blue hotel, which represents a bleak and desolate place, is a metaphor for the singer's own experiences. The lonely highway, mentioned multiple times throughout the song, symbolizes the path of life that one must travel alone, figuratively and literally. The notion that life does not work out is a common sentiment for those who have faced difficult or unfortunate circumstances. The refrain of the song, "Blue Hotel," is repeated throughout as an emphasis of the feeling of hopelessness and despair.
The second verse of the song portrays the singer waiting alone each lonely night, suggesting a lack of companionship and human interaction. The blue hotel, with every room being lonely, highlights the idea that this isolation is not only felt by the singer, but potentially by all of the guests of the hotel. In the third verse, it is mentioned that the night is like her lonely dream, implying that there may be a person in the singer's life who is also experiencing loneliness and despair. This further adds to the idea that these emotions are universal and can be felt by anyone.
Overall, the lyrics of "Blue Hotel" evoke a sense of sadness and isolation, while reflecting on the hardships of life. The repetition of the phrase "Blue Hotel" reinforces the idea that these emotions are persistent and inescapable.
