After their 1999 debut Anchor, the band released Different Stars in 2002. It caught the attention of Cocteau Twins bassist Simon Raymonde, who signed the band to his record label Bella Union, and re-released it with a new tracklisting. The band moved to Seattle to make their third album, 2006's Having. After the EPs Noble House (2007) and The Natural Order of Things (2009), the band entered a period of silence and ultimately disbanded owing to tensions between Williams and Brown. They reunited in 2020 to release the single "Winterstorms".

Trespassers William Lyrics

And if we re all blind
Wooden arms and sleep, I ve tried
But they ve killed me and the morning name
Breathe
Whoa, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh,
Whoa, oh, oh
And I swear I won t lie
I ll try, to hold this so tight
And all of this come and get it
To end
Whoa, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh,
Whoa, oh, oh x 3
The lyrics of Trespassers William's song, Believe Me, are somewhat enigmatic and can be interpreted in various ways. Here's a possible analysis:
The first verse creates a sense of disorientation, asking whether the night is "locked" and suggesting that something prevents one from seeing clearly. The "wooden arms" and "sleep" could be metaphors for a state of numbness or resignation, as if the singer has given up on trying to fight against some kind of oppression or pain. The line "they've killed me and the morning name" is particularly intriguing, as it suggests that the singer has lost not only their life but also their identity, or the ability to recognize themselves in the light of day. Overall, the verse conveys a feeling of despair or hopelessness, as if the singer has reached a dead end.
The chorus, on the other hand, seems to offer a glimmer of hope or connection. The line "without you, nothing stands on air" suggests that the singer needs someone else to support them or provide a framework for their existence. The repetition of "whoa, oh, oh" creates a sense of urgency or longing, as if the singer is calling out for help or affirmation. The phrase "I swear I won't lie / I'll try, to hold this so tight / and all of this come and get it to end" is somewhat ambiguous, but it could be read as a promise to be truthful and committed to making things work, even if the odds are against them. The line "come and get it to end" could be interpreted as a challenge to fate or a willingness to face whatever consequences might arise from their actions. Overall, the chorus offers a counterpoint to the darkness of the verse, suggesting that there is still a possibility for connection and resilience.
