Songz was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson on November 28, 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia. Raised a military brat, he recognized his vocal abilities at the age of 14. Reluctant to sing, he began performing with encouragement by friends and family. Record producer Troy Taylor discovered Songz during a talent show, which led him to a record contract with Atlantic Records. After graduating from high school, Songz moved to New Jersey to begin his music career.
2004–2006: I Gotta Make It
While recording his debut album, Songz released mixtapes under the alias Prince of Virginia. He made an “answer track” to R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet”, entitled “Open the Closet”.His debut album, I Gotta Make It was released in July 2005 by Atlantic Records. It debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200, domestically selling over 10,000 copies in its first week of sales. Songz’s debut album yielded the singles Gotta Make It, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 87, and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts at numbber 21, becoming his first Top 40 R&B hit. Another single, Gotta Go, peaked at number 67 on the Hot 100 and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, at number 99.
2007–2008: Trey Day
Songz released his second studio album, Trey Day, in October 2007. The album again had only featured guest appearances by Bun B, who appeared on the opening track, and Jim Jones. Production on Songz’s second album had included, Bryan-Michael Cox, R. Kelly, James Harris, Terry Lewis, Andrew Harr, Bernard Freeman, Floyd Hills, alongside Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin, Justin Haro, and M.S. Eriksen. The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200, selling more units than his previous album, I Gotta Make It. The lead single, “Wonder Woman”, peaked at number 54 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
The second single, “Can’t Help but Wait”, peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number two on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart; it became Songz’s highest charting debut on the Hot 100, and his first-charting R&B single on the R&B charts.[citation needed] “Can’t Help But Wait” charted at number 74 on the Billboard Pop 100 in February 2008. The third single off of “Trey Day”, “Last Time”, peaked on number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number nine on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. In 2008, Songz was nominated for a BET Award for Best Male R&B Artist.
2009–present: Ready
In 2009, “Can’t Help but Wait” earned Songz a nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony. He announced the upcoming release of his third album, Ready, scheduled to be released in September 2009. Ready is preceded by the first single, “I Need a Girl”. Furthermore, a companion video to “Brand New”, was released in March 2009. Possible collaborators on Ready include Fabolous, Ne-Yo, Nelly, J. Holiday, Drake, Chris Brown, The Game, amongst others. Production is set to come from the likes of Stargate, Jermaine Dupri and Jim Jonsin.
Prior to the release of Ready, Songz released a mixtape titled Anticipation in June 2009 through his blog. This mixtape is the second mixtape released by Trey Songz in 2009, with the first being titled Genesis. Genesis was a collection of Trey Songz first recordings when he was fifteen years old and was released to show his fans the dedication that he had to making a record when he was young.

Y'all know what it is
Better hide your girl, mane, we looking for her
I ain't the type of nigga thinking 'bout relationships
I-I-I be on that late night shit
They going cozy for the DJ when he play the shit
They be on that late night shit
Five o'clock, six o'clock, you can hit your boy
If you ain't the type of bitch talking 'bout relationships
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
On that late night shit, on that late night shit
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
(We on that) on that late night shit
(We on that) on that late night shit (we on that)
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
Is this all for me? It's finna be a great night
A lot of fish in the sea, I'm feeling like a great white
Girl, you got a face like oh, oh
Might wanna see you in the daytime, oh, oh
If the money don't sleep, I won't close my eyes for a second
You come first, I come second
'Bout to give you this blessin', finna teach you this lesson
Get you out of that dress and I don't know nothing 'bout affection
What's up? If you wanna spend some time
Baby, you know when the club is over, over
I'mma let you know ahead of time
Baby, I
I ain't the type of nigga thinking 'bout relationships
I-I-I be on that late night shit
They going cozy for the DJ when he play the shit
They be on that late night shit
One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock, four
Five o'clock, six o'clock, you can hit your boy
If you ain't the type of bitch talking 'bout relationships
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
On that late night shit, on that late night shit
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
(We on that) on that late night shit
(We on that) on that late night shit (we on that)
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
All my dawgs so gon' let a dawg on
One night stand, you wake up, I'm long gone
Girl, quit playing, Juicy J can't be your man
No discussion, bitch, fiddling, fucking then toss you with the bands
She ratchet, Dirty Diana, doing anything to get on that camera
Straight shot trying to get her Instagram up
On the internet getting niggas jammed up
Know your type the only thing I'm spending with you is the night
Turn you on it and if the face looking right I might hit it twice
Drill the chick after the club and then I sent her back
Might as well work at least the way she give me cab
She throwing that like a quarterback
Call me Warren Sapp, I tackle that
Hit me when I'm in your town, I'm smashing that
I ain't the type of nigga thinking 'bout relationships
I-I-I be on that late night shit
They going cozy for the DJ when he play the shit
They be on that late night shit
One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock, four
Five o'clock, six o'clock, you can hit your boy
If you ain't the type of bitch talking 'bout relationships
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
On that late night shit, on that late night shit
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
(We on that) on that late night shit
(We on that) on that late night shit (we on that)
Hit me up, hit me up on that late night shit
Hit a nigga up if you 'bout that life
Let's get fucked up, yeah, bring your girls
Ending up on that tub, but for now we on this club
My hands all on your butt, you grabbing all on my what?
She can say, she can say, baby let 'em talk about it
You know like I know that they don't know about us
You know like I know you wanna give me all love
You know like I know so baby tell me what's up?
In "Late Night," Trey Songz sings about his laid-back approach to relationships and his preference for casual, non-committal encounters. He laments that he is "not the type of nigga thinking 'bout relationships" and instead prefers the "late night shit," presumably referring to late-night hookups. He also gives a nod to Juicy J, who adds his own verse to the track, emphasizing that he isn't looking for a long-term relationship either. Throughout the song, the repeated refrain "Hit me up on that late night shit" serves as an invitation for women who are interested in a casual encounter.
The lyrics of the song paint a picture of a nightlife fueled by drinking, dancing, and the thrill of the moment. Trey Songz seems to be urging women to let loose and indulge their desires, saying he's ready for anything as long as it's on the "late night shit." There's a sense of spontaneity and excitement that pervades the song, as if Trey is living in the moment and encouraging his audience to do the same.
