Overall Meaning

"Canto de Ossanha" is a song that speaks about the dangers of love and how it can trap us, leading us to pursue witchcraft and other means of manipulating the other person. The lyrics warn that men who speak too much about giving, going, being, or staying are not to be trusted, as they constantly change their minds. The title "Canto de Ossanha" refers to a traditional African religious chant associated with the god of thunder Xango, who is asking people not to listen to the song, because it will cause them harm. The chorus repeats the phrase "vai, vai, vai, vai" (go, go, go, go), before informing the listener that they are not going, highlighting the conflict in human desire and willpower.

The first verse points out that those who talk the most about what they will give or do and who they are or are not are not trustworthy.
